Action: Define the Role of the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Conditions: In a classroom environment student are given a brief on the role of the NCO and awareness of Operational Environment (OE). Standard: Ensure students understand and can communicate the role of the Noncommissioned Officer. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS. In a training environment, leaders must perform a risk assessment in accordance with DA PAM , Risk Management. Leaders will complete a DD Form 2977 DD Form 2977 DELIBERATE RISK ASSESMENT WORKSHEET during the planning and completion of each task and sub-task by assessing mission, enemy, terrain and weather, troops and support available-time available and civil considerations, (METT-TC). Local policies and procedures must be followed during times of increased heat category in order to avoid heat related injury. Corporal is the base level of the Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) ranks. Corporals serve as team leader of the smallest Army units. Like Sergeants, they are responsible for individual training, personal appearance and cleanliness of Soldiers. Sergeants typically command a fire team of around five Soldiers. Sergeants oversee Soldiers in their daily tasks, and are expected to set an example and standard for Privates to live up to. A Staff Sergeant commands a squad (nine to 10 Soldiers). Often, a Staff Sergeant will have one or more Sergeants under his or her leadership. They are responsible for developing, maintaining and utilizing the full range of a Soldier’s potential.
