5 Classics courses at Bristol:
Ancient History: training in historical research & interpretation, knowledge of main historical periods. Classics: training in ancient languages; knowledge of literature and ideas of antiquity. Classical Studies: training in literary and visual interpretation, knowledge of ancient culture and its reception. English and Classical Studies: training in English literature of all periods, and the literature and culture of the ancient world (and the links between the two).

Homer, Sappho, Aeschylus, Euripides, Aristophanes, Plato, Aristotle, Livy, Catullus, Virgil, Ovid, Tacitus, Sallust, Lucan BA Classics Years 1-2: Latin and Greek languages are taught at various levels – from absolute beginner to advanced. You also choose optional units on literature, philosophy, art and history. Year 3: choice of special subjects + dissertation

9 BA English and Classical Studies Our Joint Honours English and Classical Studies degree combines investigation of the ancient Greco-Roman world with study of major works from all periods of English literature, many of which reflect or reanimate ancient texts and topics. You can also choose to study Latin and/or Ancient Greek. 11 A typical timetable Three units per semester (or two units plus the dissertation in the final year). Option to take a unit from a different subject. Each unit involves 2-4 contact hours per week. This could consist of lectures, seminars or language classes. Third year units are all small group seminars and are research-led. Most units assessed by a combination of coursework and exams.

12 Study Abroad You may apply to spend one semester abroad in your second year. We partner with a range of approved institutions around the world. For Classical degrees, international partners include universities in the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe.
