2. Since 2004 - work on cultural statistics « frozen » because of the lack of resources
2007:
more interest from the policy makers (Council, EP, EC) →
with very small human resources and some finances for a contract:
publication of the pocketbook «Cultural statstics» - well received; important for the visibility of the domain
elaboration of the report on international data sources with recommendations for future work
(thanks to our contractor - French Ministry of Culture and Communication)
creation of the dedicated section on cultural statistics on Eurostat website
approval for the future work on cultural statistics by the DSS

3. 2008:
Debate in Eurostat (Directors meeting) for re-launching of the work on cultural statistics:
allocation of limited internal resources (one part-time post)
and
approval for the ESSnet method if the WG agrees with this approach (financing is already foreseen for 2 years €) ↓
Importance of the decision taken during this WG meeting: agreement for the ESSnet with declarations of the MS for their future involvement
Growing interest in cultural statistics at international level and expectations towards the EU: UNESCO, UNCTAD, ECE/CES, OECD..
