Kathryn Wallace, MSPT Physical Therapist and PBIS Coach Easterseals of Southeastern Pennsylvania Coaching Job Description

2 Strategies for New Coaches
Attend monthly coaches meetings with other coaches. It’s all about making people feel supported! When new coaches come on board you share what has worked and what has not worked. Know that it takes time to become comfortable coaching Listen to new suggestions There are resources to help support the teachers- ask if you are not sure where to find them! Questions to ask/ponder: What has worked for you? Have you tried these strategies? Do you have any to add?

3 Strategies for Coaching Teachers
Have monthly meetings and be consistent Coaches meeting should ONLY be with the teacher to help make the time meaningful Provide paper resources when you make suggestions to increase follow through Teacher coach agreement is a great way to discuss expectations Include teaching assistants when doing projects related to PBIS When doing observations be consistent as a coach and always have a follow up meeting Questions to ask/ponder: What has worked for you? Have you tried these strategies? Do you have any to add?

4 Coaching is about creating a positive working relationship with your teacher. It is about mutual respect. It can be uncomfortable at times, but I have found that stating expectations is important. If you start off on a good foundation, you will be able to make meaningful change. You will NOT be perfect and we all have room for improvement. Ultimately, we are supporting the children and making a positive learning environment for everyone. Happy coaching!
