1 15th Amendment (Right to Vote)

2 There were many problems and issues from the past and present relating to the voting rights in the United States. There are (2) scenarios that will be part of the assignment. One scenario from the past and one scenario in the present.

3 Scenario #1 During the 1950s and 1960s, the 15th Amendment (right to vote for all Americans) lacked enforcement. This led to inequality and discrimination towards many African Americans and other minorities.

4 Scenario #2 Today, we don’t have the same problems in voting and registration but we still have problems with getting people to come out and vote during the elections.

5 The Assignment Each group (Pairs of 2-students) will address one the scenarios from the past or present. The instructor will assign each group the assignment. - Each group will draft a graphic organizer (concept web). - Write an essay (i.e., introduction, body, conclusion) with 400 words . - Share out your work.

6 Problem # What were some of the problems of the 15th Amendment (right to vote) during the 1950s and 1960s that lacked enforcement? Provide examples of the problems. - What are some solutions? Provide examples of the solutions. - Why did people feel it was important to vote during the 1950s and 1960s?

Provide some examples of the problems. - What are some solutions of getting people to vote during the elections? Provide some examples of the solutions. - In your opinion(s), is voting important? Explain your answer.

8 What will be graded? 1. Graphic Organizer (Concept Web) Use your own paper. 2. Participation (engaged in the process). If you do not participate/work on the assignment, you will get no credit for the whole assignment. 3. Essay (400 words) Make sure to write your full name on the work and how many words . 4. Share-Out (Each group will be asked some questions about their essay)

10 Introduction (Peter Smith – 100 words) The shared philosophical strategy that combines bilingual education program which promotes the development of two languages and English as a Second Language programs could have some similarities in terms of teaching strategies. Both focus on teaching language to students. They both focus on developing language skills for reading and writing.  Body (Peter Smith – 100 words) English Language Learner needs to learn English in an appropriate learning environment. Special education is different and some of the teaching strategies are different from teaching strategies in language. There are many levels in special education so it requires the gamut of teaching strategies to accommodate the students’ learning disabilities. Funding could be a greatest advantage in combining special education with bilingual education and English as a second language program. Special education gets a greater amount of funding than bilingual education and ESL. The pedagogical ideals and teaching strategies that are used in all three programs could benefit the students. They are meaningful teaching strategies that promote cognitive development through practical and easy to understand teaching strategies. The English Language Learner and Special Education departments can collaborate with each other through Professional Learning Community learning environments.  

11 “Share-Out” Procedure Each group will “share-out” their group work with the class. Group members are expected to talk about their part of the group work.
