Venus A sleepy air Canada pilot first mistook the planet Venus for an aircraft, and then sent his airliner diving toward the Atlantic to prevent an imaginary collision with another plane, an official report said. Alyssa Pecorella And Twinkle Markana

2 History Galileo Galilie first saw Venus through a telescope in 1610.
This photo shows the symbol of Venus. History Galileo Galilie first saw Venus through a telescope in 1610. Venus got its name after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Robert Richardson noticed the planet Venus spinning backwards. Venus’ Greek name is Aphrodite.

3 Solar System Venus is the second closest planet to the sun.
This is a picture of where Venus is located in our solar system. Solar System Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. Venus is 67,239 miles or 108 million kilometers away from the sun. One day on Venus is 243 Earth days. Venus orbits the sun in 225 days. Venus rotates the opposite way on its axis than the other planets in our solar system.

4 Moons Venus has no moons.
Long ago Venus probably had a moon but it most likely crashed into the planet’s surface billions of years ago.

5 Planet Appearance Venus is constantly covered in a thick layer of clouds, as seen in this picture. Venus has many volcanoes and mountains on its surface. Venus has many craters from when meteorites have hit its surface. Venus is a red, brown, and yellowish color. Venus has a lot of spots covered in lava.

6 Exploration In the 1970’s the Soviet Union was able to land more than one probe on the surface of Venus. The Mariner 2 visited Venus on December 14, 1962. In 1967 Russian probes began orbiting and landing on the surface of Venus. In 1990 the American probe Magellan began mapping the Planet’s surface. Mariner 8 landed on Venus on August 27,1962.

7 This is a picture of a lava flow on the surface of Venus.
Interesting Facts Venus has a far more thick atmosphere than Earth does. Venus is almost identical in size, chemistry, gravity, and destiny as the Earth. The air around Venus is poisonous because it contains drops of sulfuric acid. Venus is always covered in white clouds, the clouds contain drops of acid. Venus is 7,520 miles across.

8 Interesting Facts Venus’ clouds swirl at 350 kilometers [250 miles] per hour. Venus contains sulfuric dust from volcanoes. Venus’ winds blow so strongly but there is very few winds close to the planet. The clouds around Venus go around the planet in just four or five days.
