Primary Goal or Mission of HE To educate, train and undertake research, and in particular, to contribute the sustainable development, and the improvement of society on a whole; to produce responsible citizens and lifelong learners; to provide solutions to local, regional and planetary problems(UNESCO, 1998). Rationale Rapid advances in knowledge require a place to develop and nurture innovative teaching-learning practices involving instructors, students, teaching-assistants and expert educators. There is need to centralize the core mission/activities of teaching and learning. There is need for a research hub which supports evidence- based approach to T&L . CONCLUSION A teaching and learning unit is helpful to all staff and students in the execution of the mission of the institution. RECOMMENDATION Articulate a clear philosophy of teaching. Formulate a mission that is linked to the institution’s vision and mission. Structure the Unit in accordance with available budgetary allocation and needs of the institution. Select staff with the best fit. These individuals should be able to work in teams; believe in the growth of others; believe in group vision and be assertive in putting ideas forward.
