The Core Values of FWC #4 – Our Connection ~ A Relevant Worship Experience Pastor Mark Schwarzbauer, Ph.D.

2 This is my Bible. It is the incomparable, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. I am what it says I am. I can do what it says I can do. I have what it says I have. I choose to live as it calls me to live. I am open and ready to receive from God’s living Word.

3 John 4:21-24

4 Part One: Core Values & Issues

5 The Core Values at FWC Everyone needs a personal relationship with God (John 3:3). Our Emphasis Biblical authority accurately interpreted and lovingly applied (II Timothy 3:16, II Tim. 2:15). Our Authority Global evangelism (Matthew 28:19-20). Our Mission Relevant worship experience that allows people to connect with God (John 4:23-24) Our Connection The person and the work of the Holy Spirit with His Baptism. (Acts 1:5-8). Our Power and Distinctive

6 Some important issues…
The real issues start with not whether you will worship… but what or who. Exodus 20:2-6 Importance of community worship in a world of isolation - Proverbs 18:1. The power of participation.

7 Some important issues…
The more you put in the more you experience God. Graham Kendrick “Worship has been misunderstood as something that arises from a feeling which “comes upon you,” but it is vital that we understand that it is rooted in a conscious act of the will, to serve and obey the Lord Jesus Christ.”

8 Some important issues…
Our Core Value of a Relevant Worship Experience is based in part on God as the creator of music.

9 Part Two: The Creator of Music

10 Zephaniah 3:17 “… he will exult over you with loud singing.” ESV
Yes, God sings… He sings over YOU! He created you with the inherent ability to be impacted by music.

11 In Spirit and In Truth… In Biology Psalm 139:13
The amygdala is not only fear center but also deep visceral emotion. The God who created your brain and its amygdala is telling you to speak because He knew the scientific connection before science knew there was one.

12 In Spirit and In Truth… In Biology
Amygdala are on both sides of your brain. Speaking uses both broca and Wernicke areas on left side of your brain influencing left amygdala.

13 In Spirit and In Truth… In Biology
Singing and music involves the artistic right side of your brain influencing right amygdala. Music also releases dopamine; a neurotransmitter that makes you feel happy. Singing and music also integrate BOTH sides of the brain and create greater learning and retention.

14 In Spirit and In Truth… In Biology
Music doesn’t just affect and influence your mind, it does the same to your spirit.

15 Part Three: Relevant Worship

16 Relevant Worship Worship – expressing reverence and adoration by speaking verbal praise, singing praise, and expressing your faith relationship. Speaking the greatness of God. Singing the praises of God.

17 Relevant Worship is Powerful
1. Worship changes your focus. 2. Worship brings release. 3. Worship fosters and atmosphere for flow of the Spirit. 4. Worship is an invitation to engage with God.

18 Relevant Music in Worship
Relevant means that the music has to have lyrics that are applicable, valuable, pertinent, timely. Classics engage a connection to the past. New songs foster growth and take us beyond ourselves and our past. Full band and acoustic sets.

19 Relevant Worship is Connecting with God
The more you engage yourself in worship the more you engage in connection with God. My deep desire is for you to connect deeply with God. God can do more in and for you in 10 seconds than I can do in a lifetime.

20 Relevant Worship is Interacting with God
Whole hearted worship ~ Deut 6:4 echoed in Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30 and Luke 10:27. An open mind and spirit. The flow of the gifts.
