1 Daily Warm-Up Exercises
Day 18 What is the difference between erosion and deposition? Erosion is when something like moving water or wind picks up loose bits of rock. Deposition is when the water or wind slows down and the rock bits settle. Erosion is when the movement starts; deposition is when it stops. What does settle mean? to stop moving and sink to the bottom In the stream table, which grains moved the farthest? silt and clay Why did silt and clay move farthest? They are the smallest and lightest grains, so they don't settle until the water is moving very slowly. Daily Warm-Up Exercises 1 Daily Warm-Up Exercises

2 Station Assignments Station 1: Stream Table
Observe the stream table and record observations on Lab p. 26&27. (Use RBV2 page 110 to include 9+ vocab.) Station 2: Multimedia Stream Table Pick 2 of the 3 given variables to test. (Divide p. 29 in 1/2, explain everything.) Station 3: Resources Book Reading Read Grand Canyon Flood! (RBV2) (Pages & Think Questions in Notebook, label, use complete sent.)

3 Weathering & Erosion Video (Part 4)
Investigation 4 My Sediments Exactly

4 Review What did the stream table represent?
The sand and clay represented the Colorado Plateau. The water represented the Colorado River. How were the stream-table earth materials different from the Colorado Plateau? The stream-table layers weren't made of hard rock. 4 Daily Warm-Up Exercises 4

5 Discuss Observations What were some landforms that were created in the stream table? canyon, delta, meander, plateau What happened to the different-sized particles that were eroded by the water? The smaller, finer particles were carried farther downstream. Daily Warm-Up Exercises 5

6 Discuss Observations What would happen to the earth material if we let the water run for several days? It might completely erode away. In the multimedia stream table, why didn't the bottom layer erode as quickly as the top? The middle layer of clay protected it. Daily Warm-Up Exercises 6

7 Video Read the questions on the Weathering and Erosion Video worksheet (pages 31 & 32). We will watch the video in 10-minute intervals. Take notes during the video, and answer the questions when we pause. 7 Daily Warm-Up Exercises 7
