4 Hurricane Irma Classified as the strongest Atlantic basin hurricane ever recorded Winds as high as 187 MPH for 37 hours - equal to the top speed of an Audi R8 Irma, Jose, and Katia marks the first time 3 hurricanes were active in the Atlantic at the same time. Peak cloud coverage was 300,000 sq. feet, which is larger than the state of Texas Fatalities of 134 people

11 Effects on Tourism Amount of jobs affected will be 36,600 fewer jobs
Around a 50% drop in tourism from ruined resorts Travel and tourism make up 11% of the GDP, but in these caribbean territories it is much higher and makes an even larger impact on their society People only got their money back if they used credit cards to pay for their trips

12 Questions What are some ways that the affected areas could prepare themselves for hurricanes? Is there a way to avoid the damages that they cause? If you lived in one of these area’s and couldn’t afford to leave like so many others, what would you do? Could we implement a hurricane protection program to fly families out of these countries to live with us while the hurricane was happening and then fly them back when it was done?
