38 In Christ – I Am A Saint! Ephesians 1:1-2

39 Identity (how you see yourself) is critical because . . .
Identity determines behavior You need to know who you are so that you will know what to do with your whole life. If you don’t know who you are, you won’t know what to do.

40 To be in Christ means . . . To have a saving relationship through
Jesus is living through you by His power.

41 Questions to consider . . . Does God view you continually as a sinner
or does he continually view you as a saint? Is a Christian’s identity as sinner or saint?

42 Truths that transforms our identity. . .
God wants us to view our identity in light of the Savior and not in light of our sinfulness.

43 In Catholicism, you become a saint when you die.
In Christianity, you become a saint while you are alive because Christ died for you.

44 Process for sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church . . .
You must be Catholic. You have to die first. After you die – people begin to speak very highly of you. Your life is investigated. This information goes to the bishop.

45 Process for sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church . . .
People start praying for you to do something miraculous even though you are dead. The Vatican investigates the miracle. The Vatican declares you to be blessed. Another miracle must occur in your honor and in your memory again after you have died.

46 Process for sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church . . .
There is a vote taken and then you are declared a saint.

47 Truths that transforms our identity. . .
Sin may explain some of your activity – but it does not define your entire identity. You will sin some of the time – but you are a saint all the time. Sin is some of what you do, but not the totality of who you are in Christ.

48 Truths that transforms our identity. . .
In Christ – you have new victory over sin. Identity determines behavior.

49 Positionally – When God looks at you, He
sees you as a saint because you are in Christ. Practically – you are looking more and more like a saint everyday as you mature spiritually.

50 Truths that transforms our identity. . .
In Christ – you have new victory over sin. Identity determines behavior. God would not call you a saint and then leave you to live like a saint on your own.

51 Two final lessons learned . . .
As saints in Christ – we should be convicted over our sin but not condemned by it. Conviction over sin is from God. Condemnation over sin is from Satan. Conviction leads to life.

52 Condemnation leads to despair. Condemnation ends in sorrow only.
Two final lessons learned . . . As saints in Christ – we should be convicted over our sin but not condemned by it. Condemnation leads to despair. Conviction ends in joy. Condemnation ends in sorrow only.

53 Two final lessons learned . . .
As saints in Christ – we should be convicted over our sin but not condemned by it. Conviction makes us want to change. Condemnation makes us believe we cannot change. Conviction leads to new identity in Christ.

54 Two final lessons learned . . .
As saints in Christ – we should be convicted over our sin but not condemned by it. Condemnation leads to old identity in sin. Conviction leads to Jesus. Condemnation looks to self. Conviction is a blessing, condemnation is a burden.

55 “There is now no condemnation for
those in Christ.” Romans 8:1

56 Two final lessons learned . . .
As saints in Christ – we should be convicted over our sin but not condemned by it. powerful over sin.
