1 Copy the list and draw as many as you can
08 November 2018 Circuits Copy the list and draw as many as you can Circuit Symbols switch, bulb, fuse, cell, battery, LDR, LED, ammeter, voltmeter, buzzer, thermistor, resistor, variable resistor. Objectives Be able to draw and make circuits and test Current and Potential Difference. HSW: AF2 – Understanding the applications and implications of science. Used before in: lesson 1 – static Will use again in: lesson 5 - resistance PLTS: Team workers – Work collaboratively with others. Used before in: lesson 3 – potential difference Keywords Current, Amp, Voltage, Volts, switch, bulb, fuse, cell, battery, LDR, LED, ammeter, voltmeter, buzzer, thermistor, resistor, variable resistor.

2 OUTCOMES All students should be able to remember, interpret and draw standard circuit symbols. Most students should be able to set up circuits that test for current and potential difference. Some students should be able to understand how current and potential difference vary in series and parallel circuits.

3 Flashcards Use the Flashcards to help you complete your list of circuit symbols. Over the next few lessons we will be describing what each one does.

4 Circuits Electric circuits are found everywhere A basic understanding of them is getting more and more useful in everyday life since we use so many electrical gadgets A detailed knowledge of them can lead to high paying careers in many industries like engineering and technology jobs as well as design, computing and the military.

5 Practical Time Your teacher will demonstrate how to set up some circuits, after this, in small groups, complete the sheet given to you in the time limit.

6 Review

7 Series circuits Circuit components are said to be connected in series if the same electric current passes through each of them in turn. 3A 3A 3A 3A 3A 3A 3A The cell and the two lamps are in series with each other and so the same electric current passes through all of them.

8 Currents in parallel circuits
The total current through the whole circuit is the sum of the currents through the separate components. 5A 5A 3A 3A 2A 2A

9 Series Circuits Choose appropriate words to fill in the gaps below:
When components are _________ together in series they will all have the same _________ flowing through each of them. The total voltage of a ________ made up of cells connected in _______ is equal to the sum of the cell ________ differences provided that the cells are all connected the ______ way around. The total resistance of __________ connected together in series is equal to the ______ of the individual resistances. connected current battery series potential same resistors sum WORD SELECTION: same sum connected series potential battery resistors current Series Circuits

10 Parallel Circuits Choose appropriate words to fill in the gaps below:
When _________ are connected in parallel to each other they will have the same _________ difference across each of them. The total __________ flowing to a group of conductors connected in __________ to each other will be equal to the ______of the currents flowing through each of the individual components. The ________ current will flow through the component with least ____________. components potential current parallel sum greatest resistance WORD SELECTION: greatest parallel sum potential components current resistance Parallel Circuits

11 Tell me two things... (for each)
that you have done well this session that you know now that you didn’t know at the start that you could do better next time that you would like to know more about 2
