3. What’s up Georgia Georgia was in a position that needed to change
Reconstruction was a process to fix what happened after the war
There were political changes, economic changes, and social changes that altered the state of Georgia

4. Bourbon Triumvirate
It was a group of three men that controlled Georgia politics between the 1870’s and 1890’s
Were all politicians of GA that wanted to build up railroad and mining here
They were White supremacists who were rich farmers before the war

5. Joseph Brown 1821-1894 Born in South Carolina Went to Yale law school
Moved to Georgia and became a lawyer
Elected to the GGA in 1849
Became Governor in 1857 big on state’s rights
Disagreed with Jefferson Davis during war so he became a republican

6. Alfred Colquitt 1824-1894 Born in Walton County Georgia
Went to Princeton University in 1844 and was a lawyer in GA
Was a US representative and later was a part of the GGA
Was a soldier for the confederacy in favor of secession
Later became governor from

7. John Gordon 1832-1904 Lived in Walker county GA
Went to Yale law school
Son of a Coal Miner
Went to but didn’t finish UGA, but worked as a coal miner before the Civil War
Was an intense fighter in the War and rose to Major General
Was the leader of the Georgia Chapter of the KKK
Became governor in 1886

8. Henry Grady 1850-1889 Created the idea of the “New South”
Became editor of the Atlanta Journal
He used the newspaper to propel industrialization of the south, disagreed with Tom Watson
He was critical in creating the Atlanta Cotton Exposition and Georgia Tech
Many locations around Atlanta are named after him like schools, hospitals, and a county
