2 Other Tubal Occlusion Techniques
Name Description of the procedure Parkland Uchida Ivings Excision of the isthmic segment of fallopian tube Time consuming Effective Source: Peterson et al, 2008 Excision of mid- section of the fallopian tube and burying the proximal stump in mesosaphix Time consuming Effective Explain: As mentioned earlier there are several other surgical methods for tubal occlusion. Modified Pomeroy are the easiest to perform thus most widely adapted. Parkland method of tubal occlusion is partial salpingectomy and involves excision of a section of the tube (about 2cm) with both the distal and proximal end of the tube ligated. This method is also highly effective. The procedure described by Uchida, involves ligation and excision of the mid-portion of the fallopian tube the proximal stump of the tube is buried in the mesosaphix. While the distal stump is exteriorized in peritoneal cavity. The proximal stump of the tube is buried to minimize the possibilities of recanalization The procedure is time consuming and requires some level of skill to separate the mesosaphix by infiltration of saline before burial of proximal end of the tube. Uchida method of tubal occlusion is highly effective. Ivings method of tubal occlusion also aims to further minimize the chances of recanalization and therefore reduce failure rates. This is a more demanding surgery and therefore requires high level of skill. The procedure is also partial salpingectomy and involves ligation and excision of a portion of the fallopian tube at the mid-section followed by burying the proximal stump in the myometrium. The method is also effective however; this method is also more prone post procedure complications. Excision of a segment of the fallopian tube and “burying” the proximal end in myometrium Extensive surgery and time consuming Effective Source: Peterson et al, 2008
