With this scalability, Bull is the only Hardware manufacturer able to provide Virtualisation, Big Data and modernization infrastructure with the same products. This allow the customer to protect its investment by reusing the same platform for different usage. - Cost Reduction: The power of the new bullion servers allows to reduce the SW licences cost by 50% (e.g. Vmware, Linux licence costs). This benefits can be achieved for all ISV using the CPU to calculate the licensing cost. This cost reduction is also very significant when we compare with servers using E5 processors as explained in the next slides. - Reliability / Maintanability: Thanks to the blade technology patented by Bull, the hot add of RAM and I/O ressources is now as simple as adding a disk. This feature, unique in the market, simplifies drastically the maintenance actions and risk on the server when the memory or I/O need to be adjusted / changed. - Memory capacity: Thanks to the exceptional memory capacity up to 3TB for 2CPU / 24TB for 16CPU, the new bullion servers range allow to provide a exceptional VM density per server (SW cost reduction, datacenter simplification) or to answer to real time analytics constraints. This results in 40% power increase and in 30% energy saved. - At last, Institut Mines Télécom (France), the first customer of the new bullion family of servers deploys huge memory capacities to provide, in an open-stack operated cloud, Big Data services for data scientist to demonstrate the benefits of real-time analysis of huge data volumes. RAS features are made ​​of two components: the features included in the processor architecture and those developed in the BIOS manufacturer. The first comparison of this slide shows the features difference XeonE7 and XeonE5 processors from Intel. We selected E7 processor because it provides maximum RAS functionality via the "Run Sure" Intel feature which ensures good troubleshooting and allows auto-correction in many cases. Note that with the E5 processors, these detection mechanisms are very few. E5 processors can not be used in critical environment but only on entry-level systems for non-critical applications. In the functionality provided by the E7 processors, note the memory rank sparing features that protects completely against memory failure by adding few memories. Finally, the last column provides a description of additional features developed in the BIOS delivered by Bull on bullion servers: hot-add memory, I / O cards, the detection of memory before the problem occurs and preventive actions associated with the 586 sensors to anticipate HW pb through monitoring tools optimized as discussed later in the presentation. We continue to constantly develop new features that will be available in a few months by a simple BIOS upgrade. For example, the ability to change memory card without stopping the applications, even in virtualized environments. The bullion server design allows to work on all mechanical components, memory and I / O without opening the server. We can extract the components on the front or back, (memories, disks, power supplies and Ultra Capacitor) All these components can be changed by the customer (they are CRUs (Customer Replaceable Unit)) without requiring the intervention of a Bull technician.
