Three Dimensional Geometry
Capsule -I

Let us consider three mutually perpendicular lines in space passing through a fixed point O.
The Point O is called origin and three lines OX,OY,OZ are termed as X axis, Y axis and Z axis respectively. The moving arrows shows the +ve direction of these axes and the opposite of it is –ve direction.

The plane containing X and Y axes is called XY Plane.

The plane containing Y and Z axes is called YZ Plane.

The plane containing Z and X axes is called ZX Plane.

All the three planes are extended to infinity and they divide the whole space in 8 parts called octants and denoted by I Octant, II Octant,III Octant and IV Octant above XY-Plane taken anticlockwise as shown in fig. and corresponding below the XY plane taken as V,VI,VII and VIII Octant.

We define, Distance of point from XY Plane as Z Coordinate. Distance of point from YZ Plane as X Coordinate. Distance of point from ZX Plane as Y Coordinate. That is Distance parallel to Z axis as Z coordinate Distance parallel to X axis as X coordinate Distance parallel to Y axis as Y coordinate

Capsule -1 Of course, we much take coordinates +ve and –ve as per direction of axis.

Coordinates of the point on X-axis at a distance 4 units from origin will be
