2
Introduction A capacitor is an electronic component used to store electric charges. Together with resistors and inductors, it is the most frequently used component in electronics. Capacitors can be fixed and variable.
3
Fixed Capacitors There are to type of fixed capacitors
Electrolytic (fig-a) Non-electrolytic (fig-b)
4
Electrolytic Capacitors
Electrolytic capacitors need to be connected in correct way (+ve supply to +ve terminal and –ve supply to –ve terminal) to charge them. They come in large as well as small values but are usually greater than 1µf.
5
Non-Electrolytic Capacitors
Non-Electrolytic capacitors on the other hand can be charged with any polarity and are thus non-polarized. Values are less than 1µf. Because they are smaller in size the values of non-electrolytic capacitors have to be decoded. (1st Digit) (2nd Digit) x 10Multiplier µF/pF
