13 Pinpoint Search: Elements considered in search results:
Pinpoint search results take into account the following: Keywords Most relevant competencies Response rate Cloud competencies Ratings and reviews Profile freshness Keywords entered by customers during search have the most weight, so make sure you integrate the most accurate keywords to describe your business offerings, as well as words your customers use to search for your applications and services. When keywords are not entered, the next most important search factor is competencies (relevant to the customer search). Ensure your profile is accurately updated to reflect your current competencies and partner program association(s).

FIRST 1-3 SENTENCES: Tell customers your specialization and unique selling proposition. Integrate keywords customers would use to find you. BULLETED LIST: Showcase your services and offerings – be specific. This is another great place to integrate keywords. Utilize a “keyword search tool” such as Bing keywords: DIFFERENTATORS/BENEFITS: What benefits do customers get in working with you? Consider your target customers needs – what specific tasks or objectives do they need to accomplish? These first sentences show in search results – capture customers’ attention with the right keywords. Customers look for product specific apps or professional services to address specific business needs. Add more details in your App/Service listings. People don’t read online – they scan. Bulleted lists that contain keywords improve readability. See current campaigns on the Partner Marketing Center ( for more keyword ideas. XYZ Enterprises has been recognized by Microsoft as an industry leader, earning “Cloud Partner of the Year” in 20xx. With Gold Competencies in Small Business and Cloud Platform and offices across the country, we are able to provide customer service that wins rave reviews from SMBs and Enterprise accounts. FINAL PARAGRAPH: Summarize any business awards, competencies, certifications and other proof points. Reaffirm your differentiators. 17 Company description step by step:
State your expertise in the first 1-3 sentences: You can include differentiators like product focus, unique skills, targeted industry experience. Create a bulleted list: Showcase your offerings and the business needs they address. A bulleted list can also highlight Microsoft product expertise Build credibility: In the final paragraphs or sentences call out key differentiators, awards or recognition, especially by Microsoft.

FIRST 1-3 SENTENCES: What does your offering do? BULLETED LIST: What benefits do customers receive when they choose you? Consider what specific tasks or objectives customers need to accomplish. Include Microsoft technology names as part of your description. Be succinct! Use keywords related to products, business tasks and needs. FINAL PARAGRAPH: Include relevant competencies and qualifications if applicable. Research shows that “clever” or made-up names are less effective in attracting business customers. Integrate keywords customers would search for in the first sentences words show up in search results so make them count. Customers are looking for ways specific software applications or professional services can benefit them. The right keywords can help surface your business in the results and help customers find you. Build confidence with your customer prospects. 1 3 ***Within the partner profile, application & service listings show 50 words and then a “More” button. © 2013 Microsoft Corporation. 19 App or service listing step by step:
State what your offering does in the first 1-3 sentences: Include the Microsoft product this offering supports or enhances and the specific industry it applies to (if applicable). Create a bulleted list: Showcase the benefits your app or service provides and the business needs it addresses. If your offering is developer focused you can also speak to features. Bottom line: know who you are selling to and speak to their needs. Add more detail: Speak in more detail to the benefits your offering provides. Call out any differentiators your app or service delivers, address any awards or significant milestones you earned through implementation of this app or service.

20 Read your profile as if you were the customer:
Does it speak to your business needs? Is it specific, succinct and action-oriented? Does it focus on value-driven terms and the benefits of your offering to the customer (not processes or software features)? Is it fact-based and credible? No “marketing fluff.” As a customer with a pressing business need, would you contact this partner?

21 Top Ten Profile Tips: How do you stack up?
Know your audience: Write as if you are speaking to your customer, not for your internal team or for Microsoft. First sentences are critical: If a customer can’t see that you have the skills and expertise to address their needs in the first sentence(s) they will look to the next partner in search results. People don’t read online, they scan: Be clear and succinct in stating factual information about your skills and expertise. Less is more. Integrate relevant keywords: Keyword integration is the number one thing you can do to optimize your profile for search on Pinpoint and search engines like Bing and Google. Keywords can be Microsoft product names, business needs, industry trends and specific industry channels. Focus on value-driven terms and the benefits of your offering to the customer, not processes or software feature. Use active (verbs) not passive language: [Example: We provide expertise, not we have provided expertise.] Use bullets: Break up sequenced information (a, b, c, d, etc.) into bulleted lists so that it is easier to scan. Avoid jargon: Use simple, everyday language, even if you are describing something very technical. Avoid “clever” or made up names for your applications or services. Name your offerings for what they do—the business needs they address, or task or objective they help customers accomplish Keep your profile current and in synch with your company web presence. With each software or service release, update your profile and site, ensuring a seamless customer experience.

29 WPC 2013 11/7/2018 2:24 PM Choose a marketplace! Microsoft Pinpoint is the official marketplace for all Microsoft partners, their software applications and services. Partners can list in Pinpoint and expand their reach by listing apps and services in product-specific marketplaces: Microsoft Office 365 Microsoft Dynamics Microsoft System Center Windows Server Microsoft Azure Each product marketplace follows the Pinpoint guidelines but has specific requirements made by the product teams. Your app or service listing will be reviewed by a live person against these guidelines and requirements before it is published. Office 365 Microsoft Dynamics System Center Windows Server All built on the Pinpoint Platform—each targets Microsoft-savvy business customers looking for offerings in these specific product areas. Lots of partners ask, “Why do we have both Pinpoint and product-specific marketplaces?” Microsoft usability studies show that Microsoft business customers search in two ways: BY MICROSOFT PRODUCT and BY KEYWORDS which relate to the tasks, issues and objectives they want to address. I’ll get into keywords in more detail a bit later. Some business customers are extremely Microsoft savvy—they know what the products do and they search by specific product name. The product marketplaces make it easy for these customers to quickly identify within a specific product group what they need. Many other customers do not know what product they want. They only know that they have a problem to solve or a task to complete and they need help. Pinpoint’s comprehensive directory is designed to serve these types of customers, serving up results that customers can them filter down by business need, competency, product type, location to find exactly the right solution or partner. To list in the product marketplaces shown here, you must first have a profile on Pinpoint, but I’ll speak to that more later too. © 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
