7 SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES LESSON 690: BOAZ MARRIES RUTH

8 RECAP OF OUR LAST STUDY From our last study, entitled “Marriage and family life of Christians”, we learnt the following lessons: Marriage is a sacred institution and the Word of God must be our guide. God still leads and speaks to His children in diverse, scriptural ways! We must avoid ungodly association with unbelievers, idols in the heart and carnality in choosing a life partner. God’s will for the believer is a happy, healthy and holy home.

9 TODAY’S STUDY: LESSON 690: BOAZ MARRIES RUTH
MEMORY VERSE: “So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bare a son” (Ruth 4:13). TEXT: Ruth 4: 1-22. The study of today touches on three points: Boaz, a kinsman – redeemer. Boaz marriage with Ruth. The birth of Obed and genealogy of David.

10 SUMMARY Boaz, a kinsman-redeemer (Ruth 4: 1-12; Lev. 25:25; Matt. 22:24) The nearest kinsman couldn’t redeem Ruth because he felt it would spoil his inheritance. This is like a sinner who refuses salvation because of earthly inheritance. Boaz became the kinsman-redeemer, a type of Christ who redeems the sinner. Boaz’ marriage with Ruth (Ruth 4:9-13; Deut. 7:8-11; 23:3): Boaz followed biblical procedure and did not attempt to do anything in secret. We should seek God and His righteousness and wait patiently for His appointed time. Those who decide to follow Christ will be saved no matter their background or pedigree. The birth of Obed and genealogy of David (Ruth 4:13-22; Rom. 12:15): God made Ruth to stand out and prepared the way for the future Messiah through her. The women rejoiced with Ruth at Obed’s birth. We should rejoice with those who rejoice. Like Boaz did, we must follow our intention by purposeful action.

11 DISCUSSION

12 QUESTION 1 What should be the attitude of single brothers and sisters waiting for God’s will in marriage? 1 Corinthians 14:40 Hebrews 10:36

13 QUESTION 2 Explain how Boaz became a type of Christ. Ruth 4:6,8-10
John 3:16 Revelation 21:7 Romans 8:17

14 QUESTION 3 What qualities of character can we emulate from Boaz in handling issues? Ruth 4:9-11 Romans 12:10

15 QUESTION 4 How can a sinner have a place in God’s book of life?
Romans 10:10-13 Revelation 20:11-15

16 QUESTION 5 What lessons do we learn from the book of Ruth?

17 CONCLUSION Boaz redeemed Ruth and become her husband just as Christ has redeemed us to be his own. Ruth’s consecration and devotion to God paid off in the end. We should make our choices with God’s eternal values in mind. We should avoid temptation of moral short-cut and living for short-term pleasure. We should live in faithfulness and obedience to God knowing that the significance of our lives will extend beyond our lifetime.

18 TILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS (GHS 110)
HYMN TILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS (GHS 110)

19 TILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS [GHS 110]
1. I'll tell to all that God is love; For the world has never known The great compassion of His heart For the wayward and the lone. Till the whole world knows, I will shout and sing of Christ my King, Till the whole world knows.

20 TILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS [GHS 110]
2. I'll tell of mercy's boundless tide, Like the waters of the sea, That covers ev'ry sin of man; 'Tis salvation full and free. Till the whole world knows, I will shout and sing of Christ my King, Till the whole world knows.

21 TILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS [GHS 110]
3. I'll tell of grace that keeps the soul, Of abiding grace within, Of faith that overcomes the world, With its tumult and its din. Till the whole world knows, I will shout and sing of Christ my King, Till the whole world knows.

22 TILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS [GHS 110]
4. Eternal glory is the goal That awaits the sons of light; Eternal darkness, black as death, For the children of the night. Till the whole world knows, I will shout and sing of Christ my King, Till the whole world knows. END OF HYMN
