Golden Stake Young Women's Camp 2016 FIREARMS SAFETY & SHOOTING

2 THE FOUR UNIVERSAL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES
Rule #1 – Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. Rule #2 – Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. Rule #3 – Keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot. Rule #4 – Be sure of your target and what is inline with your target.

3 THE FOUR UNIVERSAL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES
Rule #1 – Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. Guns can be dangerous and MUST be treated with respect. When you pick up a gun or someone hands you a gun the first thing you want to do is determine the condition of that gun. Is it loaded and is it in good condition to use? Assure yourself of the gun’s condition before you get ready to shoot.

4 THE FOUR UNIVERSAL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES
Rule #2 – Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. In other words, do not point the gun at anything you are not willing to kill or make useless. This means a person, the TV, a mirror, other objects around you. The muzzle, or opening in the barrel is where the bullet come out should always be pointed in a safe direction. For our purpose this is pointed down range at the target. The bullet travels at great speed and has destructive power. Always be aware of the direction the muzzle is pointed.

5 THE FOUR UNIVERSAL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES
Rule #3 – Keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot. The best way to do this is to keep your trigger finger straight and resting alone side the gun’s frame and outside the trigger guard. When you are ready to shoot you can bend your finger and move it inside the trigger guard and on to the trigger. Keeping your finger straight and resting on the gun’s frame is called the “Ready position.” Your finger on the trigger is called the “Firing Position.”

6 THE FOUR UNIVERSAL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES
Rule #4 – Be sure of your target and what is inline with your target. This means KNOWING exactly what you are shooting at and making sure there is nothing in front or behind the target that you are shooting. A bullet can pass through your target and hit what ever is behind it. Most walls in your house WILL NOT stop a bullet. If a person or object you did not want to destroy were on the other side, where you could not see them, you could possibly hit that person or object. Always be aware of your surroundings!
