2 INTRODUCTION Bajaj group was founded by jamnalal bajaj in 1940's started as an two wheelerand three wheeler importer. in 1972 bajaj chetak has launched. starting price is roughly b/w Rs 8000-9000. Chetak was companys first scooter model. chetak -chathrapathi shivajis horse name. in 1977 bajaj auto have sold a lakh chetaks in one FY.

3 GROWTH Most middle class indians preferred chetak scoooters because of there durability, low maintancecosts,and easly adaptable while compared to other motorcycles available in india. over two and half dacades untill the halt of1995 the company did not face any stiff compitation from any two wheeler market apart from minor changes in performance. some of their compitators were from scooter segments are Lml,vespa sccoters

4 MATURITY In late 1990's the indian two wheeler market obesrved a shift in customer preferences. The popularity of gered scooters began to decresed while motorcycles incresed.newer models with improved design and modern technology had became available in the market while changes were taking place in the market, the features of chetak remains unchanged

5 DECLINE The primary reson for decline was never did anything with the product.it had same look,same quality and style. bajaj never seriously looked at customers preception about chetak.the product had faced starting problems. during mid 90's the company realised and shifted to motorcycles.
