In a disc brake system, the calipers, brake pads and rotors are the vital components for operation and safe slowing of the car.

Normally, the brake rotors are silver or gray in color, but under some conditions, they turn into blue color.

In the disc brakes, pressurized brake fluid is sent through the lines from the master cylinder.

Within the caliper, the fluid actuates a piston, which accurately closes the caliper and the brake rotor gets squeezed between the inner and outer brake pads.

This squeezing action of the caliper and pads against the rotor generates friction and heat required to slow and stop your car.

The generation of heat and excessive temperatures can result in damages such as the bluing of the brake rotor.

These are the most common factors behind turning the brake rotors of your car into blue color.

A common factor for rotors to turn blue is that the caliper is locked and the brake pads remain in almost constant contact with the metal.

This might be slight enough that you don’t feel any drag during normal operation, but it will be enough to produce significant heat and wear.

Your car's calipers slide back and forth on metal pins which need to be well lubricated, clean and free of debris.

When they get corroded, the caliper will not slide in and out properly and remain too close to the rotor rather than moving back to the start position.

When the driver regularly rides the brakes because of a lot of stop and go driving or driving more in hilly areas, then it could be the reason for blue blue rotors.

Constantly engaging your brakes causes the same buildup of heat as having a locked caliper, but you’ll observe bluing on two or four rotors, rather than just one.

Extreme heat can make your rotors to warp and even crack, and your brake pads will deteriorate rapidly, leaving you with less stopping power.

When your car has blue brake rotors, it can develop into an expensive problem and also reduces your safety on the road.
