The engine is the heart of the car which requires the presence of the right level of oil for the continuous movements to run the car.

The engine of the car depends on oil to lubricate its components and keep them running smoothly without any damage.

Symptoms of low engine oil

Here are some of the common symptoms that you can expect to experience when there is a low level of oil in your engine. 1-OIL WARNING LIGHT 2-KNOCKING NOISES 3-BURNING SMELL 4-LOW DIPSTICK LEVEL 5-ENGINE FAILURE

Oil warning light

The very first symptom of low engine oil is the glowing of the warning light on the dashboard which indicates that there is less oil in the engine.

Low levels of oil in the engine cause the sensor to detect low oil pressure which is the result of not enough oil in the engine.

Such warning should be taken seriously and add more oil to the car to avoid serious engine issues as well as poor performance.

Knocking noises

Unwanted knocking noises come up when you have had a low amount of oil in the engine of the car for a while.

When the engine's components have an increase in friction due to lack of lubrication which loosens the engine rods considerably.

As the rods become loose, they will get thrown around inside of the engine and cause knocking sounds.

Burning smell

Many of the components of the engine are metal and they regularly come in contact with the other metal components creating a lot of heat in the engine.

Oil is the lubricant which helps to keep the generated heat to a minimum by cooling off the components.

But, when there is a low level of oil in the engine, the metal components won't get cooled off and results in a burning smell which makes its way into the cabin.

Low dipstick level

In order to check the present level of oil in the engine, make use of the dipstick present in the car's engine.

Make sure that the engine has been turned off for a while so that it's not hot and cooled down.

If the dipstick indicates a low level of oil in the engine, then it means you need to add more oil to avoid any inconvenience.

Engine failure

The worst case scenario of having low engine oil is your car suffering a total engine failure.

Such failure mainly occurs when you have continued to have ignored the warning signs and symptoms of low engine oil.

It is always better to avoid this case, repair or replacement of the engine is always going to cost you thousands of dollars.
