Preamble: Sets the purpose of the Constitution Establishes the power of the govt comes from the PEOPLE

2 Constitution Article I Describes Legislative branch Writes laws
Article II Describes Executive branch Enforces laws

3 Article III Describes Judicial Branch Interpret the law Article IV States have the power to make and carry out their own laws

4 Article V Amendments (changes) can be made need ⅔ vote of Congress Article VI Constitution is the SUPREME LAW of the land

5 Article VII Describes ratification (approval) process 9 of 13 states needed to ratify

Ratifying a Constitution with a strong central government Favored-The Articles of Confederation was ineffective and needed to be changed. Opposed-States would lose influence and power with the growth of the national government’s power. Power of the 13 states Wanted to limit power. Believed that the Senate (2 representatives per state) could speak for the states. Supported strong states rights-Believed this was key to the idea of democracy. Bill of Rights Not Necessary Essential to protect the rights of each citizen. WU #35
