1 The Circulatory System
By Jan Carlos and Alyssa Louk Health Class Teacher Imy

2 What does the circulatory system do?

3 Transportation Blood caries food, water and oxygen.
Our circulatory system are like roads, and the blood cells are the cars.

4 Elimination Blood also carry waste materials.
When blood travel through the circulatory system, it pick up carbon dioxide. This occurs during cellular respiration.

5 Organs in the circulatory system and their functions:

6 The Heart Your heart is the never stopping engine that powers the flow of blood throughout the circulatory system. It can beat from 70 to 75 times a minute, every minute of your life. Slowing down when you go to sleep, and speeding up when you are angry or scared.

7 THE HEART It is divided into four chambers. Blood enters the upper chambers, through atria, and leaves through the bottom chambers, through the ventricles. Kn;kijp9u708weyu29045h49n

8 Blood Vessels: Arteries
An artery is a vessel that takes blood away from the heart. Because arteries are close to the pumping action of the heart, blood pressure is high and their walls are thick. The aorta is the largest artery that carries a large amount of blood and branches out into smaller vessels called aerioles.

9 Blood Vessels: Capillaries
Capillaries are tiny blood vessels that delivers supplies to individual cells and take away waste materials. They are the smallest blood vessels, and are usually one cell thick making it easy for molecules to move between blood and body cells.

10 Blood Vessels: Veins The vein is the vessel that brings blood to the heart. The have a one-way valve to prevent the blood to flow backwards. The vena cava is the largest vein, that carries blood from the lower part of your body to the heart.

11 BLOOD VESSELS

12 Types of Circulation

13 Systematic circulation
Systematic circulation is a network of vessels that carry blood from the heart to the body, and from the body back to the heart.

14 Pulmonary Circulation
The network of vessels that carry blood to and from the lungs. It carries oxygen-poor blood from the heart to the lungs, and carries oxygen- rich blood from the lungs to the heart. Blood that enters the heart from the lungs is then pushed to the rest of the body.

15 Coronary circulation Coronary circulation is the network of arteries and veins that supplies blood to the cells of the heart.

16 CIRCULATION

17 Circulatory System Health

18 Circulatory system health.
Your good health depends on a healthy circulatory system. You muscle must be strong enough to push blood. Circulatory disease are illness that occurs when some part of the circulatory system stop working properly.

19 Hypertension The bulging of an artery , is what you feel when you check your pulse. Bulge happens because blood presses against the sides of the artery. That pressure is called blood pressure. Normal blood pressure is considered to be 120 millimeters of mercury.

20 Atherosclerosis Is the buildup of fatty material whiting the wall of arteries. Fats deposits can interfered with the artery’s blood flow. A blockage in the heart can cause a heart attack.

21 Heart attack This happen when part of the heart muscles damage.
Most heart attacks occurs when a coronary vessel is blocked.

22 Stroke Happens when a part of the brain damage.
Occurs if a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the brain.

23 Heart failure Occurs when the heart is not working efficiently.

24

25 Preventing circulatory disorders
Eating healthy diet Controlling weight Exercising Don’t smoke Some risk factors cannot be avoided.
