3 Eligibility Reports Please sign both copies of your child’s eligibility report Place both copies back in the folder Results are valid for all of Georgia No renewal or continuation of testing for eligibility

4 Mental Ability Test CogAt-96th percentile or higher in any one of the three tested areas; Verbal, Quantitative, Nonverbal Naglieri-Nonverbal test for students who have previously taken the CogAt-96th percentile or higher qualifying score

5 Achievement Grades K-2-Stanford 10 Test-90th percentile in one area
Grades 3-5-IOWA Test-90th percentile in Total Reading, Math or Composite

6 Creativity Torrance Test of Creative Thinking-Standardized test of creativity. 90th percentile or higher qualifying score Product Assessment-Given in regular classroom-scored by product scoring team

7 Motivation All teachers rate students Highest score is taken
90th percentile or higher qualifying score

8 What is TAG?

9 Gifted Services Extend the regular curriculum
Offer more content to nourish love of learning Challenge able students to think critically and apply knowledge to new situations or solve problems Develop creative problem solving abilities Provide opportunities to collaborate with others and share ideas and products Develop leadership and independence but also respect for others’ ideas

10 TAG Day Elementary program-students pulled out of class one day per week After SMART time until dismissal Join regular class for lunch, recess, and specials Complete regular classroom homework and make up modified (if any) classwork Students’ responsibility to find out about homework

11 TAG Curriculum Three 7-9 week units on Research, Creative Thinking, and Higher Order & Critical Thinking Skills Units contain: problem solving creative thinking activities critical thinking (compare/contrast, decision making, solving mysteries, analogous thinking) Research Units include: Choosing topics Note taking Organizing information Creating products and presentations Citing sources

12 Classroom Activities Include a lot of group work
Allow students to take on leadership roles Allow students to build tolerance for others’ ideas

13 Grading Report cards are sent at the end of each unit
Advanced communication skills are evaluated in every unit, as well as work and study habits and social skills Probation for students doing poorly in TAG- have opportunities to improve before dismissal from program

14 Middle School Fifth grade IOWA scores, 5th grade data, and teacher recommendations are used to determine if students will qualify for TAG Social Studies and/or Science Guaranteed at least one TAG course in middle school LA and Math are no longer “TAG” courses-Students are placed according to continuous achievement levels Current 5th grade parents-We will have a meeting in the spring to discuss middle school placements.

15 Classes Will Begin… First and Second Grade-Next Monday and Friday respectively Third-Friday, Dec 8th or Monday, Dec 11th Fourth-Tuesday, Dec 12th Fifth-Wed, Dec 13th or Thurs, Dec 14th
