1 Welcome With over two decades of experience behind our designs, the company has positioned itself as the forerunner in the use of European door and window technology. Modified for U.S. applications, Weiland has been awarded several patents covering unique track and jamb designs. The experience of building thousands of systems is evident in each custom door we make. All manufacturing is done in Oceanside, California. In the early 80’s Weiland began in San Diego as a specialty woodworking business that evolved to become a manufacturer of high precision European doors and windows. In the early 90’s the company was the first to introduce a liftslide featuring the Weiland flush track, the removable liftslide handle and weatherized pocketing doors. Later, the clip together side jamb and head track were designed and patented to make a multitude of configurations easy to build. Folding doors were then introduced and now include countless options including doors up to 13-1/2’ tall and individual panels up to 5’ wide, depending on configuration. As a U.S. manufacturer Weiland imports certain parts necessary to incorporate the best technology into every door and window we build.

2 Bifold Overview Folding door systems can open up an entire wall to let the outside in. A bifold is a versatile door system that can fold either to the interior or exterior of the room. Provides added design flexibility in any number of configurations, including use as windows. 3) Like most Weiland products, the bifold door is offered in three choices of material, all aluminum, aluminum with interior wood cladding and all wood. Folding door systems are especially useful when trying to maximize the size of an opening if there is no room for sliding doors into wall pockets. The bifold door can be configured in a straight line or meet at a corner. A man door (French door) can also be integrated into the panel configuration. Bifolds are often used as windows complimenting nearby folding doors. 2

4 Bifold Door Panel, Jambs and Tracks
Panels can be configured straight or to meet at corners. Side jambs are less than 3” wide and fit most wall conditions for easy installation in remodels. Side jambs and head tracks can be buried in most situations for a more custom look. The standard stainless steel U channel bottom track extends only 3/8” above the finish floor. For the aluminum bifolds: Panels are hung from a 2-5/8 inch wide head track. Side Jamb Width: 1-11/16 inches. Panel Frame Thickness: 1-9/16 inch. Sash Width: 2-1/16 inch. For the aluminum/wood bifolds: Panels are hung from a 3-3/8 inch wide head track with wood trim. Side Jamb Width: 2-7/16 inches. Panel Frame Thickness: 2-7/16 inches. Sash Width: 2-9/16 inches. *See our Product Spec Sheet for the all wood Bifold door, (Sweet’s, Weiland Tech CD and ARCAT) or call our sales office for more details. The bifold has a door jamb that fits into most existing wall conditions. The single U channel bottom track used for folding doors is made of a durable, corrosion resistant, 304 stainless steel versus less corrosion resistant 400 series stainless steel used by other manufacturers. The track comes standard with available drainage features. Raised sloped tracks and interior flush ‘U’ channel tracks are also options. Because the folding doors are top hung, the bottom track carries no weight and acts only as a guide.

5 Bifold Hardware Door systems can be built to fold inwards or outwards with systems up to 10 feet tall. As the door is opened and closed the European hardware provides a smooth, easy and continuous feel of operation. The aluminum folding doors have hidden hinge hardware creating a more sophisticated design and added security. Managing the weight and size of the panels ensures years of easy operation. The width and height of each panel is dependent upon the overall weight of the panel. Glass specs will help determine how heavy the panel will be. This profile design usually uses 7/8” IG glass. Maximum weight of a panel is approximately 150 lbs. Please look at Weiland’s Beefy Bifold for folding doors up to 13-1/2’ tall and 5’ wide. Most competitors have surface mounted hinges and shoot bolts. The unique concealed hinge system allows swing doors to be placed within the system for easy access without having to open up the whole door system. Man doors can be designed within any configuration with an odd number of panels. The Weiland bifold handle finishes for the aluminum doors are in black, white, silver, and brass. The all wood folding door has a wider selection of handle finishes and includes surface mounted hinges that are either a dark bronze color or white.

6 Design Flexibility of the Bifold
Man doors (French doors) can be built into most door configurations to allow easy egress. The number of panels can be varied to suit an opening, enhance the view and/or accommodate the desired operation. Smaller folding panels are popular for pass through windows in kitchens or for bar areas. Bifold doors have the option of meeting at corners to open up an entire room. Several threshold and bottom track options are available. Individually operable doors can be built into most units for more exit options.  The number of panels and the configuration can be varied to suit an opening, enhance the view and/or accommodate a desired application. Panels can slide to the left and right. The door system can be divided into sections for independent operation. Ask for details regarding an almost limitless number of configurations. Bifold doors can meet at a corner without a stationary post, creating a unique unobstructed opening to the outside by opening up two sides of a room. There are several threshold options, including some with a flush bottom track and built-in drainage system only 3/8” above the finished floor.

7 Bifold Glass Options The aluminum door panels are designed to accept glass up to 7/8” thick. Working with many glass suppliers allows us to offer the most options and highest performance glass available. Divided lites and lock rails are available. The choice for no glass is offered if the client chooses to use a unique glass or have glazing done on-site by others. The wood folding door panel has room for thicker pieces of glass. Please call sales for assistance. In order to meet any necessary energy requirements, Weiland offers glass options that can be used in most extreme environments, including the harshest desert heat and frigid cold ski resorts. As energy standards become more important, glass options include insulated units with tempered glass, various coatings to optimize energy efficiency including laminated, tinted, and other options. Low E and other available coatings greatly reduce heat transfer through glass and help minimize fading of furniture and carpets that can be caused by UV rays.

8 Highest Quality Exterior Finish
Weiland matches colors of other window manufacturers including custom color matching. Weiland offers high quality Kynar 70 as its standard exterior finish. Powder coating and anodizing are also available. When Weiland’s doors or windows are being used in combination with another manufacturer, we can match any color. Custom color matching is also available. Just send us a color sample, (some custom or metallic colors may cost more or have longer lead times). Kynar 70 paint is Weiland’s standard finish and provides outstanding color retention and weather resistance due to a time tested formulation containing a high percentage of resin. (meets AAMA performance requirements)

9 Materials Weiland uses only the best materials of the highest quality available. Most of our raw materials are locally sourced and have recycled content. Panel frames, jambs and tracks all utilize high quality marine or aircraft aluminum alloys for long life and top performance. Weiland uses the highest quality wood species available offering the most options. For over twenty years Weiland has evaluated, tested, and worked with suppliers in Europe and the U.S. in order to provide the best products possible. Without sacrificing quality or performance, Weiland works hard to maximize the recycled content of all components and operate our facilities as environmentally clean as possible. Weiland doors have been used in LEED projects. Aluminum door profiles are made with 6063 aluminum, a stronger and harder alloy than the thin aluminum cladding used by others, and finished with long lasting Kynar paint. All folding door bottom tracks come standard as stainless steel. Weiland uses only premium qualities of wood from the best sources available. Mahogany, Doug fir, walnut, cherry, alder and many other wood types are often ordered to match any décor or custom wood cabinetry. For special projects, customers can choose almost any available wood species. FSC or SFI lumber can be specified and obtained to meet appropriate environmental standards.
