Feng Zou, Lib, Xialin Liu, MD, PhD, Shaochun Lin, Tec, Kaili Wu, MD, PhD  Ophthalmology  Volume 119, Issue 4, Pages e2 (April 2012) DOI: /j.ophtha Copyright © 2012 American Academy of Ophthalmology Terms and Conditions

2 Figure 1 Yearly distribution of articles that noted Chinese authors throughout the 6 years. Total publication, as well as CHNonly articles, increased gradually. CHNonly = Chinese author only; CHN+coAu = Chinese first-author with overseas coauthors; co-CHN = overseas first-author with Chinese coauthors. 3 Figure 2 Calculation of the Journal Impact Factor ([JIF] using the 2009 impact factor of each journal from ISI database) and article characteristics for different Chinese-authored publications. The average JIF, number of article pages and number of authors of each article is shown on the Y axis. All values are mean values for the years Asterisks are significant changes between CHNonly and other 2 groups based on One-way analysis of variance by ranks (Kruskal-Wallis Test; *P<0.05; **P<0.01). 4 Figure 3 Chinese regional distribution of collaborative publication with overseas authors. The social network analysis software NetDraw ( was used to draw the network charts with ties of the number of co-addressed articles and the nodes of their original countries or provinces/municipalities within China. Node data of each provinces/municipalities in mainland Chinese and straight line sizes were 10×log10 transformed paper numbers. Numbers followed each country were collaborative publications with China. Countries without number were copublished only 1 paper. Only 1 collaborating overseas country was noted if more than 1 appeared; similarly, 1 province was noted for more than 1 within China. The number of articles for each country was additively determined so that collaborative publications were counted more than once if there were more than 2 nations' addresses in 1 article. ARG = Argentina; AUS = Australia; BEL = Belgium; CAN = Canada; DEN = Denmark; EGY = Egypt; FRA = France; GBR = Great Britain; GER = Germany; HK = Hong Kong; JPN = Japan; KOR = Korea; NED = Netherlands; NOR = Norway; NZL = New Zealand; SIN = Singapore; SUI = Switzerland; SWE = Sweden; TUR = Turkey; TW = Taiwan; USA = United States of America. 5 Figure 4 Histograms showing 3 types of addressed publications from different provinces/municipalities in mainland China. Only the first address was counted if there were more than 1 addressed.
