1 Santosh Pradhan, Port Cranes CTL 2016, Mumbai
Santosh Pradhan, Port Cranes CTL 2016, Mumbai It is a pleasure to be here in Mumbai and participate in this CTL conference. My name is _______. I work as Sales Manager in Konecranes for Port Cranes in India. CTL 2016, Mumbai 21 September 2018 CTL 2016, Mumbai

2 Taking Operational productivity to new heights – The impact of Technology What are the technologies that boost productivity and performance in ports? Automation is a trend that has been picking up, especially available for larger ports and greenfields. In the presentation I also highlight our very latest development in terms of automation, and this is available to smaller and existing terminals I bring up some technologies available that boost productivity, and are actually at the same time as base for the automation. And finally what are the benefits of automation and different automation alternatives? A Few words about Konecranes We are global company manufacturing lifting equipment, and having setup here in India, globally approx For ports we have almost all different types of equipment, only not mobile harbour cranes and terminal tractors Our sales last year was billion EUR We are in over 600 locations and in about 48 countries, We do also service and have more than 453,000 service contracts. € MILLION IN SALES IN 2015 600 LOCATIONS WORLDWIDE MAINTENANCE CONTRACTS 453,000 EQUIPMENT OF DIFFERENT MAKES CTL 2016, Mumbai 21 September 2018 CTL 2016, Mumbai

3 Impact of Technology in two operations models
Impact of Technology in two operations models CFS OPERATIONS From RST to BXH From Conventional RTG tech features to Automation MAIN OBJECT IS THROUGHPUT / TIME – Port Operation. MAIN OBJECT IS COST/THROUGHPUT – CFS Operation. COST MEANS BOTH CAPEX (RTG INVESTMENT) AND OPEX (OPERATIONAL COST) PORT OPERATIONS CTL 2016, Mumbai 21 September 2018 CTL 2016, Mumbai

8 WE BROUGHT DOWN THE MACHINERY
Easy service access Lighter trolley CTL 2016, Mumbai 21 September 2018

9 LIGHTER TROLLEY Easier maintenance Less top-heavy
Agile drive experience CTL 2016, Mumbai 21 September 2018

10 WE BROUGHT UP THE ECO - efficiency
COUNTERWEIGHTS Another first in RTGs: counter weights On average 25% lighter load with every lift CTL 2016, Mumbai 21 September 2018

12 EFFECTIVE LOAD CONTROL INTEGRATED SWAY PREVENTION AND FINE POSITIONING
EFFECTIVE LOAD CONTROL INTEGRATED SWAY PREVENTION AND FINE POSITIONING Positioning without moving the trolley or gantry What are the other technologies that boost productivity, and are actually at the same time as base for the automation. One is Effective load control. With that you gain optimal duty cycle in all operating conditions Also you are able get more through put with less equipment – effeciency is not adding cranes, but getting more out of one existing crane. This effective and active load control means Quicker load positioning Sway prevention with full load and with empty spreader Not damaging any external objects, like containers, trucks etc. Example: Moving container to the right CTL 2016, Mumbai 21 September 2018 CTL 2016, Mumbai

13 - Container Positioning - Autosteering - Container stack profiling
Positioning Solutions - Container Positioning - Autosteering - Container stack profiling Another example is positioning solutions, and from there as examples like: Container positioning Autosteering Container stack profiling These are utilizing DGPS technology and latest scanner technology With Container positioning you gain 100% accurate yard inventory that is up to date And it is in connection to Terminal operating system =TOS You gain maximum speed/efficiency and no lost containers. With Autosteering: Eliminate Collisions Constant accurate heading for gantry drive Driver can focus on container handling and resulting more efficient crane operations Container stack profiling is a safety feature, and preventing the driver to collade with container to stacked containers. 14 WHEN TO CONSIDER AUTOMATION
WHEN TO CONSIDER AUTOMATION PROS CONS Implements more strict traffic control system and safety procedures May impact on stacking density . 3. Civil works for ASC’s Stability and Predictability in crane productivity, around the clock, No influence on driver performance Longer equipment life time due to controlled more gentle use Better contolled processes which enables safety A-RTG Incremental approach possible Adaptable yard layouts, also in the future RTG way of operating can remain Brown field applicable as well as green field Now when considering automation, benefits are as follows Stability of the crane productivity, 24/7 The driver skills and performanc does not have the same affect as in manual operation Predictability of production One very important aspect is long life time of the crane, since moves are optimized and gentle to crane Yard operation process is more controlled and leads into better safety Looking at specifically advantages in A-RTG’s Lower investment costs, no civil works Step by step approach is possible, eg. One stack at a time Adaptable yard layout and variations to yard surface is acceptable Traditional way of operating remains Also Existing terminals can take A-RTG’s in to use Some thing to consider: Brings strict procedures to operations Container slots and height of the container stack may be reduces depending on the yard surface Civil works are needed for ASC’s CTL 2016, Mumbai 21 September 2018 CTL 2016, Mumbai

16 NOT JUST LIFTING THINGS, BUT ENTIRE BUSINESSES
NOT JUST LIFTING THINGS, BUT ENTIRE BUSINESSES Summary: There are several technologies available for boosting prodcutivity and performance. A-RTG gives an alternative to excisting terminals to gain the benefit of automation. Less civil works cost Maximum productivity and predictability Some of these technologies are as base on path to automation. Main criteria today is to select the proper crane that can be equipped with automation, ready installed or retrofitted. Then you are in any case prepared today for tomorrow’s need!
