Summary 21 September 2018 AMSRL-WM-TD

15 Flexible Body Armor Experiments
Successful FY01 effort has demonstrated: 83% reduction in multiple hit separation on ceramic armor inserts when compared to the “interceptor” specification. 400% improvement (with a 1,000%-1,500% improvement possible) in multiple hit capability for the ceramic armor inserts when compared to the “interceptor” specification. 8%-10% weight reduction in the soft body armor component when compared to the “interceptor” specification. Averaged less than 31 mm penetration into clay backing against the 7.62 M80 ball at impact velocities slightly above those required in the “interceptor” specification. Improved ballistic performance against the threats tested when compared to the “interceptor” specification. Total system weight comparable to “interceptor.” Ceramic insert weight is currently 12% higher than the interceptor’s insert. 21 September 2018 AMSRL-WM-TD

16 Flexible Body Armor Experiments
PROPOSED MISSION PROGRAM FY02: Complete phase I SBIR with pinnacle armor Conduct 9 mm M882 V0 clay backed test against interceptor and pinnacle soft body armor components. Conduct additional 16-grain RCC tests against pinnacle soft body armor component. Support SOCOM SBIR phase II evaluation and/or program of a level IV flexible body armor by pinnacle armor. FY03: Support SOCOM SBIR phase II program for a level IV flexible body armor by pinnacle armor (if funded). 21 September 2018 AMSRL-WM-TD
