2. Women’s History Month, 2018
The purpose of Women’s History Month is to recognize the achievements of women in all facets of life including government, science, literature, the arts, business, medicine, and athletics.
Women’s History Month provides schools with opportunities to honor and celebrate women from all backgrounds, both historical and current, who have made a positive difference in our community, nation, and world.

3. Women’s History Month 2018
In 1981, Senator Orrin Hatch from Utah and Representative Barbara Mikulski from Maryland co-sponsored the first Joint Congressional Resolution proclaiming a “Women’s History Week.”
In 1987, the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress to expand the celebration to the entire month of March.
A special Presidential Proclamation is issued every year honoring the extraordinary achievements of American women.

4. Women’s History Month 2018
The national 2018 Women’s History Month theme is “Nevertheless She Persisted: Honoring Women Who Fight All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.” The 2018 theme presents the opportunity to honor women who have shaped our nation’s history and its future through their tireless commitment to ending the social, political, cultural, and economic discrimination that has plagued American women and girls for too long. This year’s observance of Women’s History Month honors women, both past and present, who have succeeded in bringing positive change to the lives of American women.
