M answers K’s question but lies
Contrast with his openness and honesty at the wedding.
Shows M’s now willing to lie to his wife.

After M has convinced Kay, she fixes a drink outside the office.
Over-the-shoulder shot from Kay’s perspective. Reminds us of the opening scene. Parallels between the two scenes: music, kissing of hands, the lighting, mise-en-scene of the office.
LOW-KEY LIGHTING: gloomy. Michael’s men kiss his hand and call him ‘Don Corleone’. Shows Michael has totally replaced his father as the Don. Kissing hand, symbolic of M’s power.
NON-DIEGETIC MUSIC: the ominous main theme from the opening returns.
FRAMING: Michael shuts the door on Kay. Door is symbolic. M is shutting Kay out of his life. It divides the outside world from the heart of the mafia world. M is now fully embedded in that mafia world now.
