“The Bible is as necessary to our safe passage through this lifetime as oxygen is to sustain life.”

Psalm 19:7,8 “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Text: Psa.19:7,8

Psalm 19:9 “The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.” Text: Psa.19:9

Five Points From Psalm 19 God’s Word is Right (Psalm 19:7-9)
Law of the Lord is perfect (7) The Effect: converting the soul Testimony of the Lord is sure (7) The Effect: making wise the simple [CLICK] The “law of the Lord” is here used for all of God’s word. Other names that are given for it in this text are “testimony,” “statutes,” and “commandment.” These are all used to simply express “God’s word.” God’s word is perfect (complete and fully capable to accomplish what it wills). The effect from God’s word being perfect is that of converting the soul. The soul is what it operates on. Whenever it is applied to a soul, it has an effect. It doesn’t say that it converts every soul, but it alone is sufficient and capable of converting the soul of man. By placing this first in the list, it may suggest that this is the primary purpose of God’s revealed law. It is given to convert us. It is a guide; it makes us wise, but the primary purpose is to convert us. If we approach God’s word without the desire to be molded into the person God wants us to be, then really, we have used the Bible in vain. We need to study the scriptures to be the person God wants us to be. [CLICK] Testimony is sure. Note, there is a testimony in God’s word. The witness of God is vouched in His word. In His word he testifies about the creation; He testifies against the wicked; He testifies in favor of His people; etc. Further, the testimony is sure, solid, firm, true. It is not an ever-changing statement. It is not a relative truth subject to revision. It contains absolute truth. The effect is that it makes the simple wise. “I have more understanding than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation” (Ps. 119:99). The simple are devoid of wisdom and yet when they open their mind to God’s wisdom the word transforms them into wise men. I might also add, it makes fools out of those who use it wrongly.

Fools Mishandle God’s Word
Ignore Context don’t ask who is doing the speaking don’t ask who is being spoken to don’t ask what is the purpose/point Misapply Scripture Putting scriptures at odd with one another. Use Revelation 11:10 on Holiday card! [CLICK Thru] “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15) Fools Mishandle God’s word by “lifting out of the context” the true message or theme of the passage…

Five Points From Psalm 19 God’s Word is Right (Psalm 19:7-9)
Statutes of the Lord are right (8) The Effect: rejoicing the heart Commandment of the Lord is pure (8) The Effect: enlightening the eyes The statutes are right. God’s precepts and appointments given for man are right. This refers to the authority of God’s word to guide and oversee us. The word’s lead is the right lead to follow. They are right and just and because of that, it brings rejoicing to the heart of the man who follows them. I might also add, to ignore God’s guidance is to bring sorrow and much regret into your life. “I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word” (Ps. 119:16). “Your statutes have been my songs In the house of my pilgrimage” (Ps. 119:54). “Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction” (Ps. 119:92). [CLICK] Commandment is pure. We need to appreciate that God’s word has the authority to command. When we are commanded by God, we are told to do what is for our benefit. We are told from a pure source of what to do. God’s commandments are pure, free from imperfection and corrupt tendency. We see from these ordinances of what is right and wrong. Thus our eyes are opened to a standard that is defined as righteous and by consequence we see every other standard as erroneous. “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” (Ps. 119:105). [CLICK] Fearing God is clean. We should not live life with “NO FEAR.” There should always be the fear of God within us. First a fear and trembling, then of reverence and respect. [CLICK] Judgments are true and righteous which is the point of this point.

Fear of the Lord is clean (9) The Effect: judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether Never wrong Always in the right measure The statutes are right. Psalm 19:10 “More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” Text: Psa.19:10
9
Five Points From Psalm 19 2. God’s Word is To Be Desired (Psalm 19:10)
More than gold More than fine gold Sweeter than honey Sweeter than the honeycomb David shows that God’s word is desired more than those things most prized by men. There is gold and then there is fine gold. Fine gold is gold that has been refined through fire where all impurities are removed. David sees the wealth in God’s word as being greater than that substance which men search for so diligently here on earth. Rather than a California gold rush which resulted in all kinds of evil and immorality, there should be a God’s golden word rush where righteousness will flourish. Honey is the sweetest substance on earth and yet God’s word is sweeter than it. We eat honey not so much for medicine but for the pleasure of our palate. That describes David’s love for the word. He would rather feast on the word than taste the sweetness of bees. There is honey and then there is honey in the honeycomb where the honey is the sweetest of all before it is weakened from the air.

Psalm 19:11 “Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.” Text: Psa.19:11

Five Points From Psalm 19 3. God’s Word Warns & Rewards (Psalm 19:11)
What if you are never warned in the preaching? Then the preaching cannot be considered the “whole counsel of God’s word” What if you don’t like the warnings? Then one does not like God’s word (Matthew 3:7; Hebrews 11:7; 1 Corinthians 4;14; Thessalonians 5:14; Acts 20:31) Matt. 3:7 -- But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Acts 20:31-- "Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. 1Cor. 4: I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you. 1Thess. 5:14-- Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. Heb. 11:7-- By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. God ‘s word WARNS in order to prevent loss and destruction! One who will not warn does not really care about the souls of men! (Acts 20:26,27)

Some Bible Warnings Galatians 6:7,8

Some Bible Warnings Luke 12:15
“And He said to them, Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Text: Luke 12:15 Luke 12:15
20
Five Points From Psalm 19 3. God’s Word Warns & Rewards (Psalm 19:11)
What reward? “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” {James 1:25} (2 John 1:8; Revelation 14:13) [CLICK] 2Jo 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. Re 14:13 ¶ Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’" "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them." Reward for the faithful and obedient—God cannot lie—Titus 1:2; Heb.6;18

“Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.
Psalm 19:12,13 “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.” Text: Psa.19:12,13
22
Five Points From Psalm 19 4. God’s Word Cleanses (Psalm 19:12,13)
Who can understand his errors? (cf. Psalm 40:12; Isaiah 64:6) Cleanse me from secret faults Faults done in ignorance (perhaps presumption v.13) Faults done in secret (cf. Ephesians 5:12) [CLICK] “Who can number up the sins of a life? Who can make an estimate of the number of impure and unholy thoughts which, in the course of many years, have flitted through, or found a lodgment in the mind? Who can number up the words which have been spoken and should not have been spoken? Who can recall the forgotten sins and follies of a life…” (Albert Barnes) Ps 40:12, “For innumerable evils have surrounded me; My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; They are more than the hairs of my head; Therefore my heart fails me.” Isa 64:6 “But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.” The only way we can understand our error is by looking into God’s word. That should be one of our upmost important purposes of coming to worship is to understand our errors so that we may get them washed away. Otherwise we are like the fool spoken of in James 1:23, 24 [Read] [CLICK X2] David could be praying for faults which he did unknowingly. Presumption is doing things without authority. I may presume you like beef, but you may not. God has certain laws and his silence on a matter doesn’t mean that he is indifferent to it necessarily. God is silent about using mash potatoes and gravy on the Lord’s Supper. That doesn’t mean we can use it. We would be committing a presumptuous sin by adding it. [CLICK] Or he may be praying for sins which he tried to cover up, viz. sin with Bathsheba & Uriah. When David was trying to cover his sin and hid it against God and man it was uncovered by God. I am convinced that he was less happy than a bird trying desperately to escape the snare of the net or a lame gazelle being hunted by a pack of blood-thirsty beasts. When your secret sin follows you, there is no peace of mind. God has made the mind in such a way that wickedness has been gladly confessed to finally help heal the conscience.

Psalm 32 1 A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah 5 I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah 6 For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in a flood of great waters they shall not come near him. Covered in verse 1 is being covered by God and not by man’s scheme. Notice David’s condition when hiding his sin. His bones grew old; he groaned all day long. This is a picture of a man being consumed by guilt. His vitality was turned into the drought of summer. His vitality was gone. He felt old and worn-out. Hidden sin can bring physical manifestations. But then he changed when Nathan confronted him and pointed out that sin. He acknowledged his sin and confessed it to the Lord. As a result he was forgiven (2 Sam. 12:13). As a result, David speaks of even in a flood of great waters (trials) they (the waters) shall not come near him. The pardoned man has no fear when the world is overcome by flood or fire. He can remain safe in God. Psalm 51:1-17 is a part of David’s confession to God and the older I get, the more it means to me as I read it.

Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.” Text: Psa.19:14
25
Five Points From Psalm 19 5. God’s Word Transforms the Heart (Psalm 19:14) Words of my mouth Meditation of my heart “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” ( Romans 12:2) You can recall when David was forgiven that he wanted to teach God’s word to sinners (Ps. 51:12-13) and he wanted to sing aloud the righteousness of God (Ps. 51:14, 15). We walk to beat of different drum—we what by a different rule—Phil.3:16…
