7. Christian attitudes to infertility treatments
Very conservative Christians would say that people should not have any form of infertility treatment because it is unnatural and that if God had wanted them to have children they would have them naturally.
Some Christians accept the use of medicine and surgery but not assisted suicide.
Liberal Christians accept any sort of infertility treatment

8. Muslim attitudes to infertility treatments
Most Muslims believe that as long as the egg and the sperm are from the married couple then treatment is acceptable. However, the use of donors in any way is not acceptable (adultery).
Some Muslims believe that people should not have infertility treatment because infertility is a test from Allah and is part of Allah’s plan. Only Allah will decide who has children and who will not.

Allah will reward Muslims who save people from death. Muslims should try to help everyone.
“Whosoever saves the life of one person it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind.” (Qur’an 5:32)
On the Last Day, the body will be resurrected so all the organs will be needed
It saves lives and prevents suffering
Only God can give life and take away life. The body is a gift from God.
The Muslim Law Council (1996) issued a fatwa (legal announcement) allowing Muslims to carry donor cards and have transplants
Transplant surgery may go against Allah’s plans
Transplants do not dishonour the body
The Qur’an teaches that the body is holy and should not be interfered with after death and buried as soon as possible.

It is healing. Jesus healed when he was on earth so it follows his actions
The body has been created by God and should not be interfered with. It is the temple of the Holy Spirit

Transplant surgery is taking on the role of God and may be going against his plans. This violates the sanctity of life
Only the soul goes to heaven, not the body, so it does not matter if organs are removed for transplant
The organs are an essential part of an individual, which God has created and it would be wrong to replace part of it
It is a way that people can show their gratitude for God’s gift of life and the body
Poor people may feel forced into selling their organs
