2. What is “prose”? All styles of writing fall into the category “prose”.
In English class, we usually mean the “study of essay writing”, with the intent that students will improve upon their own essay writing skills as they see examples of fine writing created by others.
This is called “Prose Appreciation”.

3. Essays are generally categorized as:
Informal essays: less structure/organization, more colloquial writing style, focus on personal reactions/experiences, implied thesis (sometimes).
Formal: very structured/organized, academic tone/diction, subject matter is often research based/impersonal, thesis is directly stated.

4. Your task!
Form a partnership. Each partner needs a pen, some paper and a Sightlines 10 text.
After reading “My Body is My Business”, complete the following questions

9) What is the thesis of the essay? Provide support for you answer using at least three of the Rhetorical Devices in the essay.
