2. Colonizing Australia
On April 29, 1770 James Cook navigated and chartered the east coast of Australia making landfall at Botany Bay.
He was a British explorer and his discoveries would lead to a British settlement of Australia. He wasn’t the first person to set foot on Australia though.

3. Colonizing Australia
To control Britain’s overcrowding problem, eleven ships took Britain’s people to Australia. Once they got there they called it Australia Day.
Britain formally claimed the western part of Australia in 1836, New Zealand in 1840, Victoria in 1851, and Queensland in 1859.

4. Colonizing Australia
During the 1800’s the land was used to send convicts because of a labor shortage. Between 1840 and 1868 that phased out.
