Velocity
3
What is Velocity? Definition: Includes speed of an object and the direction of its motion. Velocity is a vector because it has a magnitude and direction.
4
What is the difference between speed and Velocity?
5
Calculating Velocity Velocity uses the change in displacement over time. Difference between speed and velocity is that velocity has a direction.
6
Ex: #4 Ms. Alvarez is swimming north to reach her mermaid pod this is 600m away from Catalina Island. It takes her 10 min to get to her pod. What is her velocity? (Make sure to include units ALWAYS)
7
Ex:#5 Malorie is is studying at the library. She needs coffee and travels east to the closest Starbucks which is 500 meters away. She travels for 10 minutes. What is her velocity?
8
Ex: #6 Elissa lost her cat. She travels at a velocity of 100m/s. Her total displacement is 1000m. What is the time that she traveled to get to her cat?
9
How to Graph Motion *The slope of the line on a distance/time graph gives the speed of an object in motion. Motion of an object can be plotted on a distance / time graph. x-axis=time Y-axis=distance y Distance x Time
