1 The Nature of One’s Relationship with God
Characteristics of that relationship affect the inward man (Eph. 3:16). Perhaps we may challenge ourselves to grow in our relationship with God?

2 Strengthening the Inward Man
(Drawing Near to God)

3 Questions to Stimulate Focus
Is there a constant awareness that God is always there (Josh. 1:5, 9; Ps. 23:4; Matt. 28:20)? Are you glad to have God “at your elbow”? Do you like to have Him “looking over your shoulder” (Acts 1:24; Heb. 4:13)? God does not scrutinize unfairly (Deut. 10:16-18; Ps. 9:8; Rom. 2:11).

4 Questions to Stimulate Focus
How does the fact that God knows what you are thinking affect you? Do you mostly think of God as “He” or “You”? What are some of the activities of our mind & body that this would have an impact on? (Prayer, temptation, zeal, etc.,?)

5 Draw Near to God; Though He is Not Far
How can I have a close relationship with God? (There is no easy, one step secret) God has given us provisions to draw near to Him. God’s provisions will most definitely work, and they are the only ones that will (James 4:8; Acts 17:27)!

6 Provisions God has Made for Man to Draw Near
We cannot relate to God properly unless we know Him, and we cannot know Him without revelation of Himself (Deut. 29:29, 30:11-14; Ps. 119:1-9; 2 Tim. 3:14-17). The Bible proclaims its Holy attributes (Heb. 1:1-3; Col. 1:17-18; Jn. 16:13, 17:6-8; 1 Cor. 2:11-13; Eph. 1-19; 2 Tim. 3:16)!

7 Provisions God has Made for Man to Draw Near
We cannot learn to love, fear, or believe God merely by being told that we should (Judg. 2:7, 10; Ps. 78:4-11; 96:3; 145:4-5). Our relationship with God grows as we experience the life that is in Him (1 John 1:1- 4). The frequent, regular study of God’s word is essential to developing a close relationship with Him.

8 Provisions God has Made for Man to Draw Near
Prayers must be from our hearts (Heb. 5:7; Matt. 6:5-7). Our prayers must be frequent, the habit regular (Mk. 1:35; Matt. 14:23; Lk. 6:12, 22:32, ; 23:34; 1Thess. 5:17; Jn. 11:41-42). We need to grow in our ability to pray (Cf. Luke 11:1; Matt. 6:9-13; Psalm 86). Study the prayers of others who were very close to God in the Bible. Prayer is an essential provision that God has given us in drawing near to Him.

9 Provisions God has Made for Man to Draw Near
Living, proving, finding out by experience, what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:1-2; Prov. 6:23-24, 22:15; 24:16; Jas. 1:2-4). Going through experiences that challenge our faith will test our mettle. This is also the way we can ask God for wisdom, and He gives it to us.

10 Let us Draw Near to God What quality of relationship do you have with God? The characteristics of that relationship affect the inward man. Let us “draw near to God” by having Him talk to us and guide us through His word. Let us talk to Him through prayer, and ask for His help and guidance.

11 Only those who obey God will receive salvation from sin (Matt
Only those who obey God will receive salvation from sin (Matt. 7:21; Heb. 5:9)  Hear/read the gospel of Christ (Rom 10:14, 17). Believe in Jesus Christ (Acts 16:30-33). Repent of all of your past sins (Acts 17:30-31). Confess your faith in Jesus (Acts 8:35-37). Be baptized (immersed in water) into Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38; 8:38; 22:16). After becoming saved, live a faithful/righteous life to remain saved (1 Tim 4:16; 1 Jn 1:7).
