And my father dwelt in a tent… Why is that significant?

King Benjamin Mosiah 2:6 6 And they pitched their tents round about the temple, every man having his tent with the door thereof towards the temple

Prophet Joseph Smith You must make yourselves acquainted with those men who like Daniel who pray three times a day toward the House of the Lord President Kimball When you look in the dictionary for the most important word, do you know what it is? It could be remember. Because all of you have made covenants-you know what to do and you know how to do it-our greatest need is to remember. Remember is the word. Remember is the program."

What, then, is the significance of:
Genesis 13:12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom How do families today sometimes pitch their tents towards “spiritual sodom?”
8
Teaching our children to “point the tents” in the right direction can be a challenge

Genesis 19 Blessings of the JST
Old Testament 4 But before [Lot and the visitors] lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round… 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. 6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. 8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. 9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. Joseph Smith Translation 9 And they said unto him, Stand back. And they were angry with him. 10 And they said among themselves, This one man came in to sojourn among us, and he will needs now make himself to be a judge; now we will deal worse with him than with them. 11 Wherefore they said unto the man, We will have the men, and thy daughters also; and we will do with them as seemeth us good. 13 And Lot said, Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, plead with my brethren that I may not bring them out unto you; and ye shall not do unto them as seemeth good in your eyes; 14 For God will not justify his servant in this thing…

Just a reminder… 'Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, …neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good' (Ezekiel 16:49-50)

Genesis 19:15-26 15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. 17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. 24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

President Thomas Monson
The Sunday School teacher was describing how Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt Little Johnny was much interested. “My mother looked back once while she was driving," he explained, "and she turned into a telephone pole!"

Elder Neal Maxwell "Many today are as indecisive about the evils emerging around us—are as reluctant to renounce fully a wrong way of life—as was Lot's wife. Perhaps in this respect,…our present parallels are most poignant and disturbing. It was Jesus himself who said, 'Remember Lot's wife.' Indeed we should—and remember too all that the Savior implied with those three powerful words. While it was tragic for Lot's wife to look back, for our generation a hard look back at Sodom could save us from impending tragedies!"

Question What should we remember about Lot’s wife?

Improvement Era- 1935 REGRET-another bad bed-fellow, and he stays with us all day if we will let him Oh! if it were only possible to put him in an iron chest and sink him in the sea. Anyone can have regrets, but it takes character to forget the unpleasant and ugly. Regrets are only of value in a lesson learned, not what has happened, but what it has done to the individual. We are all a little bit delinquent, have made mistakes, but that should bring us closer together. Understanding should come because we are all so human. Failures may become successes. Look up and forget the past. Go on to the new day. Remember Lot's wife…
