3 Absorption Absorption – process by which nutrients pass through the cells that line the digestive tract. Humans need lots of nutrients We need a large surface area to absorb lots of nutrients

6 Villi and Microvilli Villi – fingerlike projections in the wall of the SI. Microvilli – tiny folds in the surface of the individual cells that line the SI. Smaller pieces of food are absorbed faster!
