3. Configuring Networking Settings
Network and Sharing Center Provides One-Stop Location for Configuring Settings.
A Network Already Set Up Can Have Its Location Changed Through Set Network Location.
Set Up a Connection or Network Wizard Offers Network Connection Options:
Connect to the Internet.
Set Up a New Network.
Manually Connect to a Wireless Network.
Connect to a Workplace.
Set Up a Dial-Up Connection.
Set Up a Wireless Ad-Hoc Network.

User can change the location of a network that is already set up.

These are advanced sharing settings, and are additional networking options.
Network Discovery enables your computers to see other network computers. Turned on by default.
Media streaming enables machines on the network to access shared photos, videos, and music.
File sharing connections enables you to select the strength of encryption used for protecting file sharing connections.
Password protected sharing requires users to have a password. Turned on by default.
HomeGroup connections enables you to determine whether Windows will use simple homegroup-based sharing or use classic file sharing.

8. Internet Connection Sharing
Used by Small Office or Home User.
One Computer Acts as the Router to the Internet.
Internet Computer Needs Connections for Modem and Network Adapter.
Broadband Connection Requires Two Network Adapters – One to Connect to Broadband Device and One to Connect to the Network.
Windows 7 ICS components consist of Auto-dial, DHCP Allocator, DNS Proxy, and Network Address Translation. ICS is a simplified form of Network Address Translation.
ICS can be used to share any type of Internet connection.
Prior to configuring ICS, ensure that no computers have IP Address , because the network adapter on the ICS computer is assigned that address.

A Wireless Network Profile is set of wireless networks available to a given user on a Windows 7 computer. The two types are Per-user and All-user. Can also use the netsh command to manage wireless network profiles.

Advanced Security snap-in enables you to perform a comprehensive set of configuration actions. Configure rules affecting inbound and outbound communication and connection security rules. Can also help prevent other users from downloading.

Domain Profile Specifies Settings When Connected Directly to a Domain.
Private Profile Specifies Settings When Connected to Private Network.
Public Profile Specifies Settings When Connected to an Insecure Public Network.
