1 Your Name Date: Class: Seat:
Type over my information and insert your name, date, class & seat number. General notes for the entire PowerPoint: Do not change the background. Do not decorate the slides. Do not us fonts smaller than 24. On the data table I set a few fonts to 20 or 22. Do not change those fonts.

2 Research Question: (The Effect of ______________ on ______________)
Title: Type your title and delete everything else. The title should be more or less in the format above (The Effect of ______ on ______, or What is the Effect of ________ on ______). Research Question: (The Effect of ______________ on ______________)

3 Abstract Insert a brief overview of:
The purpose of your investigation was/ why you did the experiment (maximum 1 sentences): How you did your experiment (maximum 3 sentence): What data did you collect and/ or record; both the IV & DV (one sentence); what the outcome of your experiment. Discuss the data/results and the conclusions that can be drawn. Briefly: State the relationship and trend of the variables. Explain what you found out about the issues you raised in the purpose of your investigation. Explain what you found out from doing the experiment. Abstracts are limited to a maximum 250 words. Leave the heading. Delete my text before you type in your information.

4 Background and Introduction
Rationale*/importance of study/why is it relevant? Explain the RATIONALE (the scientific concept)for your project. Include a brief overview of the scientific background* that supports or explains your project based on your research. Explain why this project is important scientifically* and if applicable, explain any societal impact of your research. Leave the heading. Delete my text before you type in your information. * Cite your research

5 Background and Introduction
State your HYPOTHESIS(ES), AND RESEARCH QUESTION(S), OR ENGINEERING GOAL(S), EXPECTED OUTCOMES. The purpose of this experiment is to ……. State you hypothesis in one of these forms: I predict that ………… because*………………….. If ___________ is __________, then _________ will _______. Explain the science that supports your hypothesis that you learned from your research*? Do not offer any opinions unless the opinion directly involves your experiment. Just the facts please. All facts must be cited with an MLA or APA citation. You may only offer opinions about the outcome of your experiment. Leave the heading. Delete my text before you type in your information. * Cite your research

6 Experimental Design Diagram
Hypothesis: The effect of ____________ on ___________, or I predict ___________ because of ______. Independent Variable: Control: Levels of IV Trials Dependent Variable: State exactly what you measured (this is your DV), and how this quantity was measured. (Example, I measured the revolutions per minute of a revolving bicycle wheel using a tachometer). Controlled Variables (constants) Calculated Quantity, explain what data you used and how you calculated this quantity. Example: mass (M) and volume (V) were measured. Density (D) was calculated per D = M/V (Delete this section heading if you did not calculate a calculated quantity.) Delete all colored text before you submit. If you did not use a calculated quantity in your experiment, delete the bottom box from the slide.

7 Materials and Equipment
Procedures: ….. …… Delete all colored text before you submit. Risk and Safety: Identify any potential risks and what safety precautions were needed. (Example, acid can irritate or burn eyes and skin. Gloves and googles were worn).

8 Use this Data Table if you have a Calculated Quantity
The Effect of _________________ on ___________________. IV (units) DV Calculated Quantity Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 Trial 4 Trial 5 Mean You only need one data table. Use this table if you have a calculated column. If you do not have a calculated column, delete this slide and use the next slide. Delete all colored text before you submit. Delete the bottom box before you submit. Fill in the title. Replace IV & DV with the name of your IV & DV. Delete this box and the red text at the top before you submit.. .

9 Use this Data Table if you do not have a Calculated Quantity
The Effect of _________________ on ___________________. IV (units) DV Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 Trial 4 Trial 5 Mean You only need one data table. Use this table if you do not have a calculated column. If you do not have a calculated column, delete the prior data table slide. Delete all colored text before you submit. Delete the bottom box before you submit. Fill in the title. Replace IV & DV with the name of your IV & DV. Delete this box and the red text at the top before you submit.. .

10 Delete all the colored text on this slide before you submit.
Data Analysis Graph Title: The Effect of ___________ on __________. Insert your graph here No zig-zag lines, do not connecting the data points. Use a straight line or a curve. Only graph the average. Do not graph the trials! For Line graphs: Display the linear equation (in the form of y = mx + b) Use a bar graphs only if the IV is not numerical data: Paste your graph on this slide. Delete all colored text before you submit. Delete the bottom box before you submit. Leave the heading. Statement of Analysis: The graph shows that ______________________ _________________________________________________________. Explain the trends between the variables, the correlation of the data points to the line, and the y-intercept. If the slope is positive do a 5% test. Is the y-intercept significant? Is the data reliable? Histograms: state what the frequency data means and what the histogram is showing. Delete all the colored text on this slide before you submit.

11 Picture 1 Pictures taken by Student
Insert your picture showing you doing the project. Picture must have the date written on a card or paper that is visible in the picture. Your picture can not show anything that identifies John Ehret High School or brand names (replace brand names with a label that says 1, 2, 3, etc., or A, B, C, etc..) Pictures taken by Student

14 Conclusion State purpose of investigation.
State if the data is reliable and how you know; and state the resulting relationship and trend of the variables. Use % range or standard deviation to determine if the data is reliable. Use % error if you know the accepted values. Make a general statement of major findings so that you make a conclusion on each point raised in the purpose and the hypothesis as well. Explain how the data supports (or does not support) your findings and your hypothesis, State specific data that supports your results and shows your hypothesis is or is not supported. Explain what you scientifically found out from doing the experiment. Leave the heading. Delete my text before you type in your information.

15 Works Cited (MLA or APA) These must match your report, minimum of 5 articles or reference books.
Leave the heading. Delete my text before you type in your information.

16 Extra Slide Delete this slide if you do not need it.
