1 Frequencies of corneal CD11b+ cells and CD11c+ cells increase in the course of dry eye disease (DED). Frequencies of corneal CD11b+ cells and CD11c+ cells increase in the course of dry eye disease (DED). (A) DED was induced in the controlled environment chamber (CEC) by subcutaneous administration of scopolamine to maximise ocular dryness. Corneal fluorescein staining scores were significantly increased on days 2, 7 and 14. Data are presented as the mean±SEM of three independent experiments. Each experiment consisted of six animals per group. Dry eye induction led to significantly increased frequencies of (B) CD11b+ cells and (C) CD11c+ cells in the periphery and centre of corneal stroma on days 7 and 14. Data are presented as the mean±SEM of three independent experiments, involving three to four corneas per group (*p<0.05, **p<0.01, ***p<0.001). Hyun Soo Lee et al.
