Sunday, October 21st 5:00 p.m. - American families meet at the baggage claim area of the Rochester airport and check in with Ms. Black. 5:14 p.m. - French students arrive on flight DL3161 (departing JFK at 3:35 p.m) Evening with families French Exchange Hosting Meeting 9/19/2018

What you should do on the first night:
Introduce your student to all family members & pets Show your student around the house, pointing out the bathrooms, where the student will sleep and where they should put their belongings. Have dinner Explain any particular rules of the house or expectations you have. French Exchange Hosting Meeting 9/19/2018

What you should do on the first night:
Explain to your student what time you must leave the house for school the next day so that they can figure out what time to get up. (Teenagers...) Give the student an alarm clock (or take the responsibility for waking them up). Allow the student to unpack, shower and then go to bed! French Exchange Hosting Meeting 9/19/2018

Monday, October 22nd (D day) 7:15 a.m. French students assemble in room 138; move to side bus loop (They must have brown bag lunch or lunch money, weather-appropriate clothing, and PASSPORT to board bus.) 7:30 a.m. Bus departs Eastridge; transports students to Niagara Falls 9:30 a.m. Bus arrives at Niagara Falls and drops us off on American side; cross border and go through customs on foot 9: :00 a.m. Group photos near falls & Canadian flag Group excursion on the Maid of the Mist General orientation (where things are/meeting time/what to do in an emergency) 11:00 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. Siteseeing along Niagara Falls/Clifton Hill Lunch on their own 2:45 – 3:00 p.m. Students gather at meeting point (Canadian flag) Roll call/passport check; Cross border/customs (Remember the “Canadian toll of $0.50 per person on the way back – exchange budget.) Walk to bus on American side. 3:00 p.m. Board bus; Roll call/passport check Depart Niagara Falls 5:00 p.m. Bus Eastridge – American students/families transport students home. Monday, October 22nd (D day) American students MAY (but do not have to) attend this field trip. If Americans attend, they must have an original birth certificate with raised seal or a passport and have a bagged lunch (or money for lunch) for them and their host student. Tuesday, October 23rd (A day) 7:30-8:26 a.m. (Block 1) French students attend Candie Black’s IBFR12 class (9 students) in room Orientation program and tour of the school facilities led by IB students. 8:30 a.m. French students assemble at side bus loop (they must have brown bag lunch or lunch money, weather-appropriate clothing to board bus). 8:45 a.m. Bus transports French students to City Hall; arrival by 9:15 a.m. 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Mayoral City Hall Presentation of pins & welcome speech by mayor or representative; Refreshments provided by City Hall Tour of City Hall Atrium, Council Chambers & Sister Cities displays; Group photo 10: :30 a.m. Walking tour of the City of Rochester led by Ms. Black; Itinerary is weather dependent; Sister Cities Bridges (Pont de Rennes) 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Brown bag the Bausch & Lomb Center 12:30 p.m. Bus picks up students outside the Bausch & Lomb building and leaves for the Rochester Museum and Science Center 12:45 – 1:25 p.m. Bus arrives at the Rochester Museum and Science Center at 12:45; 40 minute visit of museum (self-guided) 1:30 p.m. Bus departs for Eastridge 2:00 p.m. Bus Eastridge – French students meet up with their American corrès. 2:45-3:15 p.m. Welcome reception; Speech by 2 students in French French Exchange Hosting Meeting 9/19/2018

Tuesday, October 23rd (A day) 5th block – Opposite ½ of French travel to EIMS to visit 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes. (Original ½ of French students shadow American hosts.) 3:00 p.m. - All French students return to room N-1 to get picked up by American hosts. Students can take 3:30 late bus home. Wednesday, October 24th (B day) 7:30-8:26 a.m. (Block 1) French students attend Candie Black’s IBFR12 class (9 students) in room 138. 8:35 a.m. French students assemble at side bus loop 8:40 a.m. Bus departs Eastridge; transports students to EIMS 8:49 – 9:45 a.m. French students attend Susan Reed’s FR7-2 class (27 students) in the EIMS library 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. Tour of EIMS facilities; computer lab time for students 10:49 – 11:45 a.m. French students attend Susan Reed’s FR8-2 class (31 students) in the EIMS library 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Lunch in Susan’s room – pizza & soda (in the past, Deb Decker paid for this – Candie to ask Mark Anson to do) 12:23 – 1:19 p.m. French students attend Susan Reed’s FR8-1 class (30 students) in the EIMS library 1:20 p.m. Students assemble at front bus loop. 1:25 p.m. Bus departs EIMS 1:35 p.m. Bus arrives at Eastridge 1:40 – 2:18 p.m. French students assemble in room 138 to participate in Candie Black’s IBFR11 class. Thursday, October 25th (C day) French Group 1 (10 students) + 1 French chaperone 7:30-8:26 a.m. French students attend Candie Black’s IBFR12 class (9 students) in room 138 9:05 a.m. Students assemble in room 138. 9:15 – 9:30 a.m. Weather permitting, Candie leads group 1 (10 French students + 1 chaperone) on a walking tour from Eastridge to Durand-Eastman. 9: :05 a.m. French students attend Rachel Rivera’s 5th grade class (Page) 10: :40 a.m. French students attend Rachel Rivera’s 3rd grade class (Vavrina) [Candie leaves Durand-Eastman on foot no later than 10:30 to arrive back at Eastridge by 10:45 a.m.] 10:45 – 11:15 a.m. French students attend Rachel Rivera’s 3rd grade class (Carrozziere) 11: :55 p.m. Durand Eastman (Lori Roe has provided lunch for the kids in the past; Candie to ask her to do the same; otherwise “brown bag”.) 12:00 p.m. Students assemble at bus loop; bus departs thereafter to Eastridge 12:15 p.m. Bus Eastridge; French students immediately report to room 138 12:20 – 1:16 p.m. French students attend Ellice Amendolare’s Chorale class in E7 1:22 – 2:18 p.m. French students attend Candie Black’s IBFR11 class in room 138. Friday, October 26th (D day) 7:30-9:38 a.m. (Blocks 1 & 2) French Students gather in room 138* Debriefing with chaperones Reminders about washing clothes, packing and preparation for departure on Sunday. 9:44 – 10:40 a.m. (Block 3) French students attend Katrina Kastberg’s FR3 class in room (15 students maximum) 10:46 a.m. – 12:14 p.m. (Block 4 – includes lunch) French students attend 4th block class and lunch with their “corrès”. 12:20-1:16 p.m. (Block 5) French students attend Katrina Kastberg’s FR2-2 class. Sunday, October 24th 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. French student and their host families arrive at Eastridge with their bags packed and a “brunch” dish to pass. 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Farewell breakfast (potluck) Photo show & photo CD gift to all Paper plate awards ceremony Thank you gift to chaperones? French exchange t-shirt gift for all (surprise) Last group photo (in front of lancer sign/stadium field?) 11: :30 French students load luggage on bus, say final goodbyes and board bus 11:30 a.m. Bus departs Eastridge for Toronto airport. 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. American students & families clean up cafeteria. Activities Sign-up The Hosting Fee is $75 – checks made payable to French Booster of Rochester. The fee includes the following costs: Entrance to the Rochester Museum & Science Center for the French student Ticket to Maid of the Mist boat ride (for both French & American students) Entrance to Nightmare Manor (for both French & American students) French exchange t-shirt (for both French & American students) Miscellaneous items for students (snacks, etc…) French Exchange Hosting Meeting 9/19/2018

Activities sign-up It is expected that the French students will attend all activities organized for them and that for those after school activities (including the trip to the Mayor’s office & Niagara Falls. If you have a special circumstance that will prevent you from attending, please let me know and make arrangements to transport your French student to the activity. Permission Slips All Eastridge students participating in school- sponsored field trips must have all of the appropriate permission slips in order to participation. This applies to the Niagara Falls trip only (while the Nightmare Manor is an activity, it takes place in the evening and parents will provide transportation and supervision where necessary). Do I need to provide transportation to and from school? No, students should take whatever transportation to and from school they normally take (school bus). Do I need to provide lunch for the French student while at school? No, Mrs. Grow, our principal, in conjunction with Mr. Seeber, the director of Food Services, have generously provided lunch vouchers for all French students for the three days they will be present at Eastridge to eat in the cafeteria for free. With all of the technology available to us in 2010, there is NO reason for the French student to call France from your home phone. Should I allow my French student to do a load of laundry while here? YES, but under supervision. You are NOT expected to do their laundry. However, you can ask them if they would like to wash their clothes. Have them bring the clothes to the machine, show them how to load it, put the detergent in and set the machine. Should I allow my French student to use our family computer? YES, but within the normal limits you would enforce for your own child. Should I allow my French to smoke if it’s OK with me? NO! The French students are prohibited by district policy from using any tobacco or alcoholic product while participating in a school-sponsored field trip. The French students were made aware they would not be allowed to smoke during the trip.
