2 KoPS Learning Outcomes
To implement research-based strategies for problem solving in Math To integrate technology based resources and manipulatives in problem solving; To make instructional decisions to plan and teach problem solving more effectively. Do: Discuss the main learning outcomes of the KoPS professional development. Try to relate the listed learning outcomes to the personal learning outcomes of the participants.

3 Action Planning Discuss participants implementation plans using KoPS by discussing these critical questions: How will you use this new knowledge? How will you assess its effectiveness in your teaching practices? How will you know it is working for your students? Presenter Notes: These critical questions should help guide your thinking about how you will utilize KoPS in your classroom. Do: Provide participants with KoPS Follow Up packet. Ask participants to take out their KoPS Implementation Plan. Prompt participants to take 5-10 minutes to address these questions. Materials: Follow Up Folder, located in their Participant Handout Binder, left pocket KoPS Implementation Plan

4 Discuss any materials or resources from KoPS that you could use or share with colleagues…
Presenter Notes: We have found that many of the resources can be shared and used in numerous classrooms. Take several minutes and again review the participant binder, books, and resources received. Highlight or use a post it note to identify some resources that will be beneficial with students and other educators. Do: Pose question to participants, “What could you share with others in your classrooms or school?”

5 In your own words, describe how KoPS could make a difference for students or a particular student.
Do: Advise participants to think of a student or several student that they are currently teaching mathematics. Ask participants to think about their concerns? How will they address these concerns? Refer participants to their Implementation Plan handouts. Materials: Implementation Plan

6 Implementation Plan: Follow-Up Activity
Student Performance Goal for Improvement Instructional Focus Instruction Data Collection Do: Advise participants to look at the Implementation Plan Handout with others at their table. Guide them in considering how they can address their questions related to improved student learning using some of the methods, materials, and resources of the KoPS professional development. Materials: Implementation Plan

7 Follow-Up Activities Continued
Implement KoPS , using the Problem Solving Process Map, NCTM ‘Navigating Through Problem Solving and Reasoning’ book, and NCTM Mathematics Assessment book. Create an implementation plan Implement Summarize your implementation Presenter Notes: As you review the “Follow-Up” Activities, consider and discuss them with your table. Please ask questions at this time. Do: Review the KoPS Follow Up Activity Summary provide participants with a date for completion, the submission process, and becoming a KoPS professional developer. Provide minutes to review the follow-up activities and the implementation plan document. Advise participants to ask for further clarification, as needed.

8 Presenter Notes: Ultimately, the reason that we attend professional development is for us, as teachers, program coordinators, and administrators, to continue our own learning to improve the learning for our students. This action planning step is to focus our thinking and planning for the improved learning for all of our students, using the information shared at this KoPS professional development. Do: Provide to each participant the materials located below. Materials: NCTM book- Navigating Through Problem Solving NCTM Assessment Book Problem Solving Process Map Poster Edible Math CD “The ultimate purpose of professional development is to improve student learning.” ~Fullan, 2005
