Channel assessment / categorisation - Adaptive hopping is based on the problem that some channels are ‘better’ than others, thus some method of categorising the channels needs to be agreed upon. Constraints: Create a sound and robust method of categorising each channel; Assessment must not take ‘too long’; Re-assessment of all channels at ‘regular’ intervals; Categorisation of channels should be polar – bad/good; Strive to detect all types of interference; Minimise additions/changes to existing standards; Hong Bing Gan, Bijan Treister et al

March 2. Reliable exchange of channel categorisation - i.e. The new adaptive hopping sequence needs to be known by all supporting devices on the piconet. Constraints: Must be a robust mechanism which ensures a ‘safe’ transition between hopping sequences; Bulk channel replacement, ‘one channel at a time’ replacement optional; Minimise changes/additions to existing standards; Hong Bing Gan, Bijan Treister et al

4 3. Mechanism of adaptively hopping
March 3. Mechanism of adaptively hopping i.e. The re-mapping, re-ordering and/or changing of the existing hopping sequence. Constraints: Mechanism needs to show some throughput improvement for all networks in area according to some measure; All devices must know how to re-order/re-map/change the sequence in the same way; Uniform usage of ‘good’ channels; Define minimum number of ‘good’ channels allowed; Legacy devices will inter-operate with new ones in same piconet; All devices maintain clock synchronisation with Master; Minimise changes/additions to existing standard; Minimise complexity of this mechanism; Hong Bing Gan, Bijan Treister et al
