Development of an imperial bureaucracy Empire was divided into provinces called satrapies headed by officials called satraps Each satrapy paid taxes based on wealth and resources Construction of road system Economics: use of coins, system of weights and measurements Switched from a barter economy to money economy

Belief in two opposing forces in the universe Zoroaster taught that one god, Ahura Mazda, ruled the world Ahura Mazda was in constant battle with Ahriman, prince of lies and evil Each person had to choose a side On the final judgment day, people would be judged for their actions during life Influenced Christianity and Islam (heaven, hell, judgment day)
