1 November 22, 2011 DO NOW: TURN IN ESSAY TO MS. C TAKE OUT ISN
GRAB A TEXTBOOK BE READY FOR A WARM-UP November 22, 2011

2 Objective I will be able to recognize personification and use chronology to track events in a story.

3 ISN pg. 64 The sailboat danced gracefully past us.
Directions: Read the sentence, think about the meaning, notice how personification creates a word picture. Identify the personification in each sentence by underlining it, and circle the thing/object giving the human quality. The sailboat danced gracefully past us. The flames ate hungrily at the burning house. The once-proud trees bent meekly before the storm. The broad, flat rock lay sunning itself by the stream.

4 WARM-UP! Review of term Write a love letter to Ms. C’s teddy bear using personification. This love letter should be 3-4 sentences long and include at least 4 examples of personification! Personification – is a type of figurative language where human characteristics are given to nonhuman things. Objects, ideas, places or animals may be given human qualities. It helps the writer create an exciting picture in the reader’s mind.

5 Quick-write pg. 64 Imagine the world of 2026.
