15 Best Practices An environment that is conducive to student learning.
Conveniently located near math classes. Students come first, i.e. given the highest priority. The staff conducts itself professionally, while at the same time being friendly and welcoming. A few, simple rules are established and enforced to create and maintain an environment conducive to learning.

16 Best Practices (continued)
Faculty/staff support and involvement are key to the success of supplemental instruction. Involvement can be in several forms: Instructors tutor in the Math Center. Instructors encouraging student attendance. Class visits/orientations Assignment to come to Math Center Collaboration with student services outside of the Mathematical Sciences Department, e.g. Health Services, LAP, Tutorial Center, AIM, MESA, STEM, Community Education, IT Services, Counseling, CJPC, Business Services, etc.

17 Best Practices (continued)
Peer tutors who know math well. Flexibility in tutoring styles. Staff working as a team. Encourage and affirm students to become independent learners. Support materials. Good management.

18 In brief, we want our students to be:
