Money FRENZY September 19, 2018 Spending and Saving Go Hand and Hand $$MONEY Money Does Not Grow on Trees Tell students that spending and saving go hand in hand. In order to do both, what do you need? When the students answer, click so that Money pops onto the slide. Say: You need to have money in order to spend and save. So, how do you get money? Does it grow on trees? Click, no it does not grow on trees. Click, You have to earn it. How do you earn money? (working, chores, allowance, starting a business) Click You can also receive money? How do you receive money? (gifts : birthday, holiday, reward) Earn IT!! Receive IT!!

4 Money FRENZY September 19, 2018 Summer vacation has officially begun. To earn money you will become an Entrepreneur, by starting a business. In this activity you will be earning, spending, and saving money. As a team you will pick your Business. Every time you earn money one person from your team will deposit $3, while the other team member deposits $6. You will record all transactions in your account register. You will also earn a $20.00 allowance. Give each student the “Account Register” handout. Divide the class into groups of two. Explain to the students when they earn money throughout the slides they will have to save a portion. One person from the team will save $3 and the other will save $6 every time they earn money. The left over money will be deposited into the spending account. Review with the students the register. The register is divided into two parts a savings record and a spending record. The spending record contains an area for transactions, deposits, debit, and balance. Do the first slides with students to guide them.

Tell students that they get $20.00 allowance. Take out $3 or $6 dollars and deposit it into the saving account by writing the amount in the deposit column under the saving account. Then deposit the difference into the spending account and calculate the balance.

Lemonade Stand expenses: $10.00 supplies Lawn Mover expenses: $ 6.00 gas Having a business costs money. For example, you might need to buy supplies or items to sell. Tell students to record the expenses for their business job in the spending account. Spend the rest of the day with friends.

Tell students to calculate their earnings based on the job the chose in the beginning. They need to multiply by the income earned for the job. For example, 1 car earns you $5 so 4 cars earns $20.00. Remind students that they will take out $3 or $6 dollars and deposit it into the saving account by writing the amount in the deposit column under the saving account. Then deposit the difference into the spending account and calculate the balance.

Go to work with DAD. Answer phones all day and earn 3 times your allowance. Tell students that they get $20.00 allowance. (Give students time to figure it out) They are making 3 time that much. $60. Take out $3 or $6 dollars and deposit it into the saving account by writing the amount in the deposit column under the saving account. Then deposit the difference into the spending account and calculate the balance.
